If a table has some fields set on 'NOT NULL', will property required
of TFields be set to true automatically. I want to check if the fields
are not empty before the changes are put to the table.
I don't want to handle it on the exceptions of TSQLQuery, because of
the strange error dialog "application get error. close or continue
(continue can give you strange working of database)*

I also want to color the DBEdits on the form if the field is required

It depends on database. If database reports in colum metadata "NOT
NULL" attribute then it will be used.
About which database you are thinking?

I'm using (embedded) firebird.

In case of Firebird it should work.
