What database should I use?

Hi,

I need a way to store details of images (dimensions, resolution,
modifications etc) which is fast to write to and read from.  It will
just be for offline use within a Lazarus program installed on a PC. 
Could someone please recommend the most likely suitable database
within Lazarus, or any open-source alternatives that I could import
into Lazarus.

If it was me I'd use Firebird in embedded mode

Firebird Embedded hands down.
