Firebird Embed Issue (Can't access lock files' directory /tmp/firebird) lazarus / 16-Databases ---------------------------------------------------------------------- guest48180 · 2014-10-18 19:07 OS: Linux Mint 17 64-bit Lazarus: 1.2.4 Thanks for taking the time to look at this with me. I copy/pasted the code from http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/Firebir d_embedded#Connecting_to_Firebird_servers to a new Lazarus Project. Then I added all these files to my project folder (probably overkill, but I wanted to be sure): Code: [Select] libfbembed.so.2.5 firebird.conf fbintl.conf fbintl.so fbudf.so But when I run the program, I get the following error: Code: [Select]Project raised exception class 'EIBDatabaseError' with message :CreateDB: -Can't access lock files' directory /tmp/firebird This is the line it's hanging on: Code: [Select]Fire.CreateDB; //Create the database file. I have my firebird.conf file set according to the instructions given on the website, making sure use of tmp files is disabled, so I'm not sure what's going on here. I did the SQL tutorials on the wiki and got Firebird to run fine using the employee.fdb. But following this new tutorial for the embedded fb, things aren't going so well. And one more thing I don't understand. I just installed FB 2.5.2 and was surprised that, while username is 'SYSDBA', the password it set by default was not 'masterkey'. The one it defaulted to during install works fine, but I thought it was strange I didn't get the 'masterkey' password set as default  If you have any ideas on this issue, please let me know. Copy pasting code and adding some files more or less by guessing is not really what those instructions are trying to tell you to do. See http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/Firebird_embedded#Linux and please note the use of subdirectories (/ in the path) 2. Again, see http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/Firebird_embedded#Linux for how to deal with thet error you are describing 3. Why not first get your code working well with regular Firebird? When distributing your applications in a .deb or .rpm or whatever, it's quite normal to add a dependency to a server such as Firebird, MySQL or Postgresql. Using .sos separately is not really something that is commonly done... 4. Re the default password: why are you surprised? Doesn't your distribution tell you it's setting a new password on install? Has you distribution no proper documentation on that? (I'm sure e.g. Debian documents it properly). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- guest48180 · 2014-10-19 14:55 Hey BigChimp: Quote1. Copy pasting code and adding some files more or less by guessing is not really what those instructions are trying to tell you to do.Worked for me just fine for the regular firebird and SQLite3. Although I didn't copy/paste the code from tutorials 1 & 2, I did reproduce them verbatim. And they worked just fine. So why would I expect different results with the embedded firebird tutorial? Quote2. Again, see http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/Firebird_embedded#Linux for how to deal with thet error you are describingMy bad. While I did initially correct part of that, I overlooked: Quote# tell dynamic loader where to find embedded lib: LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/home/pascaldev/embed/lib # tell server where to find files (messages, config etc) FIREBIRD=/home/pascaldev/embedAgain, my mistake. Thank you for pointing it out to me. Quote3. Why not first get your code working well with regular Firebird?I did, and even told you so: QuoteI did the SQL tutorials on the wiki and got Firebird to run fine using the employee.fdb. I wont go into the password; it's really a non-issue...just a curiosity  Appreciate your help.
