The problem is I dont know which files to choose. Could anyone tell me which files I should choose? I use windows 7, 32 bit. Thank you ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Mike.Cornflake · 2014-06-23 06:00 You're not the only one to ask :-)   See if this helps. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/11170215/what-is-the-difference- between-sql-server-2012-express-versions I'm on Win 7 64 bit.  I use SQLEXPR_x64_ENU.exe as I don't need all the extra tools. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- exdatis · 2014-06-23 06:20 I'm not sure but I think that the express version have limit, more than five client connections drastically weak performance... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Mike.Cornflake · 2014-06-23 06:38 QuoteI'm not sure but I think that the express version have limit, more than five client connections drastically weak performance... While some limitations certainly exist, they're not as draconian as they were in the days of MSDE (2000).   Five client connection limit hasn't been around for ages. For development work, they're superb.  I think the only limitations that exist in the 2008 R2 express are: Single core, 1Gb RAM usage and 10Gb database size.  None of those are sufficient to limit development. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1169634/limitations-of-sql-server- express ---------------------------------------------------------------------- exdatis · 2014-06-23 08:06 Thank you very much for an information also what is the happened with generators/sequences, M$ promised this possibility? Best regards p.s. I'm ignorant because I do not use MSSQL for a long time... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Mike.Cornflake · 2014-06-23 09:03 Quote from: exdatis on June 23, 2014, 10:06:40 amThank you very much for an information also what is the happened with generators/sequences, M$ promised this possibility?I'll be honest - I've never heard of them.  A quick google reveals this as a possible answer http://www.dbbest.com/blog/oracle-sequences-sql-server/ Which makes it sound like Microsoft didn't hold up that particular promise very well. I'm not a DB Admin, I'm only a user effectively.  I write software around already existing client databases, and all my work is deliberately read-only.   Some of the clients use Oracle, others MySQL, but most are MS SQL (one sodding client uses Excel #?!@#).  There is a chance that in some of the Oracle databases I've used that some of the fields are "sequences", but I'm only interested in the existing value, not how they got there. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2014-06-23 09:11 Quote from: Mike.Cornflake on June 23, 2014, 11:03:15 amQuote from: exdatis on June 23, 2014, 10:06:40 amThank you very much for an information also what is the happened with generators/sequences, M$ promised this possibility?I'll be honest - I've never heard of them.  A quick google reveals this as a possible answer http://www.dbbest.com/blog/oracle-sequences-sql-server/ Which makes it sound like Microsoft didn't hold up that particular promise very well. I don't understand. AFAIK, sequence support was added in SQL Server 2012 as planned. What's the problem? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Mike.Cornflake · 2014-06-23 09:14 As I said, I'm not an expert.  From the article I linked to: Quote...but several incompatibilities with Oracle implementation still exist.... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- exdatis · 2014-06-23 09:22 Thank you guys, there is no problem just want to know... As I said, I do not use MSSQL so I know just a little and old information. Thank you. Yes, 2008 does not have sequences but who expected a large feature like that to be added outside of a new release? BTW: funny because most often people complain that they have to use sequences/generators instead of autonumbers like MS SQL Server/MS Access have used for years, instead of the other way round Note: a bit OT as the OP discussed SQL Server 2008 not 2012 but exdatis brought up the sequence stuff... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Stephano · 2014-06-23 11:31 You can check out the open source Firebird database as an alternative. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- KMagic · 2014-06-25 04:20 I am downloading it now. Thanks everyone.   At first, I thought we needed to download all the files
