query info lazarus / 16-Databases ---------------------------------------------------------------------- clemmi · 2014-02-18 18:07 I made a database application and I'm able to access the Firebird database on my PC with:  'select * from CUSTOMER' -- this is the only query that works so far... it shows in the DBgrid fine. but I don't seem to be able to query other things like the field CITY or a specific row. Where can I find the info about the specific query language used by Firebird or Lazarus QSLQuery? The database is the Firebird example EMPLOYEE.DB 'select CITY from EMPLOYEE' or 'select CUSTOMER from EMPLOYEE' gives me an error. EMPLOYEE is the database, CUSTOMER is a table and CITY is a field, or am I wrong?? I'm confused... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mangakissa · 2014-02-18 21:21 If your table is based like this: Code: [Select]CREATE TABLE customer (   id INTEGER,   name VARCHAR(10),   city VARCHAR(20)); The most simple query is Code: [Select]SELECT * FROM customer; But if you want specific field, the query is Code: [Select]SELECT name FROM customer;More fields will be like this: Code: [Select]SELECT name, city FROM customer; You can't select a table or a field from a database. There are more things to do with SELECT queries like selecting records with a condition or combine several tables in a query, but it better to begin simple. with "database workbench 4 lite for firebird" is a good thing to test your queries to understand how it works. There are a lot of tutorials on the internet. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Leledumbo · 2014-02-19 01:40 QuoteWhere can I find the info about the specific query languagehttps://www.google.com/search?q=sql TSQLQuery use whatever underlying SQL syntax supported by underlying DBMS.
