Lookup from and then post to the same table?

I have a dbf file that contains information about a family tree.  For
a given record, I need to search through that same table for a set of
parents and copy them to the first record. Each member of the family
has an individual record. I use a DBLookupCombo to then find the
parents and apply them to the child record.

I have been trying two separate DBf and Dataset components, but linked
to the same physical table for each. I am not sure about that...

What is the best way to do this?

Use a MemDataset or BufDataset for searching. The problem with DBF is
when table is opened you can not search into without replacing your
cursor on the table. MemDataset or BufDataset is operating in memory
and has the same records after copy the dataset.
