IBExpert moves to Lazarus/FPC lazarus / 16-Databases ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JD · 2013-12-17 07:54 Hi there everyone, I just discovered that the IBExpert Firebird DB Admin tool is written in Lazarus/FPC. Surely we could have them listed on the Lazarus Application Gallery page as a Lazarus user. I think it is good publicity. QuoteLazarus IBExpert KG now offers professional support for Lazarus We at IBExpert KG have been developing with Lazarus for a number of years now. All our own projects are developed using Lazarus and Firebird. Lazarus is a free cross-platform IDE which provides a Delphi-like development experience for Pascal and Object Pascal developers. It is developed for, and supported by, the Free Pascal compiler. It supports the creation of self-standing graphical and console applications and runs on Linux, FreeBSD, MacOSX and Windows. Free Pascal is designed to be able to understand and compile Delphi syntax, which is of course OOP. Lazarus is the part of the missing puzzle that will allow you to develop Delphi-like programs in all of the above platforms. Since the exact same compiler is available on all of the above platforms it means you don't need to do any recoding to produce identical products for different platforms. See link below for the rest http://ibexpert.net/ibe/index.php?n=Main.Lazarus That said I still want to see how far we can push LazSqlX. I would love for it to be as good as MySQL Workbench & still be free or community maintained someday! Hmmm, just dreaming. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Groffy · 2013-12-17 09:43 The company IBExpert KG will offer Lazarus support, but AFAIK they did not port the IBExpert Software to Lazarus. Its possible to run IBExpert under Linux using Wine. Best regards ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JD · 2013-12-17 10:57 @Groffy I already run IBExpert on Linux using Wine. The wording of the announcement on the website seems to say that IBExpert was ported to Lazarus. It caused a controversy on the Embarcadero Delphi forum because the company labelled Delphi a buggy, unfocused product while extolling the values of Lazarus/FPC. That sounds like a major policy shift to me. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Groffy · 2013-12-17 11:23 Their own products (ERP software) are developed in FPC/Lazarus. AFAIK IBExpert database administration tool is written in delphi 5 with FibPlus database components. I'm not sure that its possible (=worth - IBExpert is a comercial product which has to earn money) to make a 1:1 port from this software which is continiously developed now over more than 10years. Best regards ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JD · 2013-12-17 14:38 I stand corrected. I saw the entry on http://wiki.freepascal.org/Projects_using_Lazarus#BRP-Software Thanks for clearing that up for me Groffy. JD ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2013-12-17 14:53 BRP software is not provided by IBExpert AFAIK?!?! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JD · 2013-12-17 18:44 Quote from: BigChimp on December 17, 2013, 03:53:15 pmBRP software is not provided by IBExpert AFAIK?!?!
