how to clone dataset row

Hi,
is there a method to clone a datset row without declaring all fields
as in appendrecord ?
I'd like a getcurrentrecord complementary function :
EG:

getmem(buff, recordsize);
getcurrentrecord(buff);
insert;
"setcurrentrecord(buff);" 
...changing primary key fields if exist...
post;
freemem(buff);
