Firebird OS X Client-only install possible? lazarus / 16-Databases ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ProgEd · 2013-08-15 20:46 I have an application running on both Windows and OS X that uses Firebird. for the Windows side I need only include the appropriate .dll file for the user to run the application. How3ever, that doesn't seem to be the case for OS X. While I have been able to locate and extract the correct client library to include in the distribution, it appears that this lib file is incomplete. Is it possible to do a client-only install on OS X? Or, is it possible to extract the appropriate files from the full install currently residing on my development machine and send those? If either of these are possible (I'd like to avoid having the client have to install the full Firebird server) could I get some pointers on how to accomplish this? Thanks, Ed ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2013-08-16 05:11 Have still got this on my to do list but have never tried it. See here http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/Firebird_embedded#External_referenc es which links to http://www.firebirdfaq.org/faq51/ There is a newer blog post by Paul Beach (I think) who discusses FB embedded on OSX as well. Edit: that might probably be the best document to follow: http://paulbeachsblog.blogspot.mx/2012/09/firebird-embedded-on- macosx.html Note: despite its name, firebird embedded can be used as a stand alone embedded db and a regular client for Firebird servers on other machines.
