Anybody need to support Clipper databases? lazarus / 16-Databases ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2013-04-19 15:27 Just wondering whether there's any need for Clipper support in FPC (Note: I know nothing about the format except it's some sort of DBase flavour). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Fred vS · 2013-04-19 16:15 Clipper was my first development-love .  It was the first prog who allows you to create database (using the fabulous Ashton-Tate dBase database) and compil the prog ( Ye man, you get a real exe, and in those DOS time, it was a hit    ) Also the langage Clipper was very clear... In fact, the Clipper language was very similar to Pascal and when Delphi comes, i choose Delphi vs C because of my background of Clipper. But it is looooong time ago and i have loose all my Clipper-source. But very happy to see that Clipper is back  . [Edit] Quoteit's some sort of DBase flavourI remember now, the main database was the same format as dBase  ( .DBF ) but Clipper used a proper index file ( .NDX ?) who was much better than the one of dBase. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ChrisF · 2013-04-19 17:34 Quote from: Fred vS on April 19, 2013, 06:15:53 pm... I guess you meant ".NTX", didn't you ?  .NDX files were the "standard" index files from DBase, and .NTX those from Nantucket (but Clipper could also use the .NDX files). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Fred vS · 2013-04-19 19:51 QuoteI guess you meant ".NTX", didn't you ?. Ooops ,of course, i remember now. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2013-04-20 07:07 Thanks guys, guess Clipper won't be at the top of my list then... (still bugs to be fixed for tdbf). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- zzzato · 2013-05-07 07:13 I love Clipper. Maybe anyone knows "Force"? It was like Clipper but more more powerful... If someone has "force" setup floppy or other media, I'll happy! :-D Ntx and Ndx ok. But anyone remembers Comix and SixDriver? I used sixdriver with NSX indexes: WOW! Best! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- miquelmatas · 2013-05-07 09:08 I used to program in Force 2.4 and Force 4 in DOS days. I've think I have image floppies yet...  Cheers, Miquel. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JJVillamor · 2013-05-07 11:21 Quote from: BigChimp on April 19, 2013, 05:27:20 pmJust wondering whether there's any need for Clipper support in FPC (Note: I know nothing about the format except it's some sort of DBase flavour). You may want to look at harbour to get a glimpse of clipper. Back then, "better" programmers use clipper. The rest use some flavour of xbase. But I don't think many clipper programmers remain though. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bambamns · 2013-05-14 13:16 Hi, Still there is a nice number of clipper and dbase systems which need some new solutions and the only way is to , during development , use dbase data with new system for data exchange. It will be very nice to fix some bugs on TDBF to make it stable for use. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2013-05-14 13:26 @bambamns: you could try the trunk version of TDbf; lately quite a lot of improvements have been made. If you hit any problem with that version, please open an issue in the bugtracker (with sample database and sample program) and I will have a look. I still have to look into the locate code which seems a bit scary. Currently busy with properly supporting stream-only (no file) usage by saving index 'files' to streams as well.
