Do you need server and multiple user connection? If yes then I preffer PostgreSQL. Firebird is good also, but PostgreSQL comes with own admin tools, sql managers etc. For Firebird you must find third party solutions. 2. If you need only fast "SQL like" data storage for single user application then I suggest SQLite. You don't need server etc, only small sqlite.dll / so lib in your application dir 3. If single user is enough for now, but you think that your application will be for multiple user in future, then you can check Firebird. Advantage of Firebird is that it can work without server (like SQLite, search for Firebird Embedded) and can be easily upgraded to server without converting database structure. Tested SQLite and PostgreSQL on linux and work like a harm ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Nebula · 2013-02-12 09:35 SQLite is more like Access, the whole database is stored in one data file. PostgreSQL is a properly installed database on the PC where it runs as a service (Windows), rivalling full-blown MS SQL Server. Pretty easy to install and manage though, don't know why anyone bothers with MySQL ---------------------------------------------------------------------- aliboy · 2013-02-12 12:43 with regards to others,I work with MySQL but if you would like to work another one use PostgreSQL or Maria DB. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SunyD · 2013-02-12 12:53 If you have little data then use TDBf else use sqlite. Both is easy to use like ADO. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- exdatis · 2013-02-13 06:05 http://www.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php/topic,17241.msg94767.html# msg94767 Regards! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- exdatis · 2013-02-13 06:08 Also: http://www.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php/topic,16960.msg92990.html# msg92990 Regards ---------------------------------------------------------------------- chrnobel · 2013-02-13 19:54 As I can understand, your product is a fairly simple standalone project, wherefore my recommendation would be to go for SQLite - but use it together with Zeos (which in the latest version is really good), making it very simple for you to rewrite if your requirements changes into more heavy client-server solutions. Actually I have made a project with approx 10-15 users, based on SQLite and Zeos, and as the utilization is relatively low, I have no problems with concurrency. /Christian
