[SOLVED] Zeos: SVN location lazarus / 16-Databases ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2012-11-15 20:38 According to the Zeos forum and the Laz wiki article, the svn location for testing is: http://svn.code.sf.net/p/zeoslib/code-0/branches/testing/ Last Changed Author: egonhugeist Last Changed Rev: 2008 Last Changed Date: 2012-11-15 16:27:42 +0100 (do, 15 nov 2012) Is that correct? Previously, I used http://zeoslib.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/zeoslib/branches/testing Last Changed Author: markdaems Last Changed Rev: 1532 Last Changed Date: 2012-07-16 00:26:56 +0200 (ma, 16 jul 2012) in fpcup, which I'd then replace. Additional question: this svn repo is still available. Is this a mirror of some kind or can it be deleted to minimize confusion? Thanks, BigChimp ---------------------------------------------------------------------- EgonHugeist · 2012-11-15 20:49 Hi BigChimp, you are right and the last commit of my selves is correct. As Sourceforge.net did an upgrade we've been forced to move our location again. Not very nice i know. The advantages of the new sourcforge.net software is hidden for me personally. From Zeos side will that move lead to pain again and a lot of questions will popup again. The most people in the Zeos forum are informed as long they are active their. It would be nice if someone could update the Lazarus wiki pages. Current SVN location: http://zeos.firmos.at/viewtopic.php?t=3431 The old roots are still available but no longer maintained. The project manager has minior time to maintain the locations. Why the deprecateds do still exists i don't know right now... Best regards, Michael, ZeosDevTeam ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2012-11-16 08:15 Hi Michael, Thanks for your reply! Will update fpcup with the new location. Cleaned out the wiki here: http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/ZeosDBO http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/Zeos_tutorial ... seemed the svn links were up to date already though. Thanks, Reinier ---------------------------------------------------------------------- EgonHugeist · 2012-11-16 20:11 No problem BigChimp. I didn't know the wiki-sites. Makes me happe they are maintained! Thank's updating all other links. May i ask you who is writing these tutorials? My english is terrible i'm more a coder than a documantion writer. I would be very happy if we could find someone who is willing to write a little bit more about a "How to use Zeos". I could do that in german but don't expect me to write everything in english. And even more i've no expierences with formating such wiki sites. On the other hand i would be really willing to answer all questions and show a lot of tricks or some more hidden properties for Zeos. It would make me really happy if Lazarus/FPC and Zeos comes a little bit more closer. (Couldn't Zeos become a third party component officielly? Thought a lot of peaople using Zeos) Michael ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2012-11-17 15:05 Hi Michael, You can see who contributed to the tutorials in the history of the wiki page. Haven't done anything much myself with zeos (except integrate it into fpcup and perhaps run a test application), but did write quite a lot of: http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/SQLdb_Tutorial1 and I wrote: http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/SQLdb_Tutorial2 http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/SQLdb_Tutorial3 I'd say writing in German is fine, plenty of people here who can translate to English - and plenty of German-speaking users as well - currently there's apparently a huge effort underway to document Pascal keywords on the wiki in German with examples etc. My suggestion if you or anybody else tries a wiki: - just start. It's easy to write something, tweak it, let others tweak it (if you're lucky), move sections around etc. It's hard to get everything right in one go. - Related to the first: writing down the outlines of instructions etc is much harder than finishing up with nice language. Worry about getting everything out there first and polishing later - Likewise about formatting. There's a toolbar when editing that lets you select bold etc. Further, if you just know how to write headings (=Heading1=, ==Heading2== etc) and syntax higlighiting ( and ) that's enough to get started. - I would respectfully suggest you use the Firebird EMPLOYEE sample database as an example dataset. Why? Because it is open source, already available, can be installed and is already used in the sqldb tutorials. You can find instructions for setting up some sample data for PostgreSQL and SQLIte, as well as generic datatabases in the first tutorial. Actually, these instructions could be extracted into a separate "Tutorial setup instructions" applicable to both sqldb and zeos. Of course I understand if you/anybody else wants to use another example, but it would be a shame to get wasted duplicate effort I'd love to see more documentation on Zeos as well. There's quite a lot on forums etc but the problem is that you keep getting people asking the same questions. Being able to refer them to a wiki helps a bit in that case. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2012-11-17 16:11 ... oh, the guy who started the SQLdb tutorial1 was http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/User:Swen as far as I remember; you could drop him a line if you want to get in touch: http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/User_talk:Swen ---------------------------------------------------------------------- EgonHugeist · 2012-11-18 14:39 Thank's BigChimp. Currently i'm still bussy with Zeos-Coding. No time for documentation  Zeos7 stable will be released soon  However i hope there are others who felt equal motivated in helping a little bit. Michael ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2012-11-18 14:49 Yep, I understand. Hope you get a nice release out there Just wanted to put down these thoughts so hopefully a helpful soul can use that to improve documentation. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- EgonHugeist · 2012-11-18 17:35 Aye i found something very interesting from a gone hero-member M.Seeger (i'm still in contact) http://www.delphi-treff.de/tutorials/datenbanken/zeos-library-einsatz- mit-delphi-und-firebird/zeos-masterdetail-unterstuetzung/ Everything in german but a lot of more than i've currently seen ever. And a lot of more details acoording the Transaction behavior of Zeos. Where the most people running into the default autocommit mode and call it speed decrease afterwards like this guy: http://zeos.firmos.at/viewtopic.php?p=16574#16574 Further more does it seem like the Brazilian people making a lot of youtube movies. Lol. who doubt: ?paplo espaniol?
