User Privileges lazarus / 16-Databases ---------------------------------------------------------------------- guest48180 · 2012-09-28 02:10 I'm new to MySQL and have the following issue: I am running Linux Mint 13 with MySQL version 5.5.24-0ubuntu0.12.04.1. The deal is this: MySQL is allowing me to use my default user name and password that I use to log on to my computer with. But when I try to do something like create a database, it tells me I don't have persmiions to do this. I change to SU and type mysql to start MySQL up in the terminal and it tells me: ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO) So I can't even go in as the Super User and do anything. I'm new to this and really need some help. How can I grant myself priveleges to manipultate the MySQL environment? What do I need to do to gain full control of MySQL? Remove it and install it again? Is that my option? Or is there a simpler, more sane way to pvercome this problem? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. I mean, I have read the online manual content and see no place this is addressed. Thanks in advance. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- taazz · 2012-09-28 02:25 Code: [Select]mysql -u root -pPASSWORDshould let you login in your mysql server a mysql root user (not linux root that you have already tried) after that you need to issue grant commands to grant privileges to your user and use that user after that to work with your server.
