PostgreSQL Components lazarus / 16-Databases ---------------------------------------------------------------------- binfch · 2012-09-14 06:30 Hi there My company's been using the Devart's component pack for PostgreSQL. We are absolutely not happy with that company and their product we are now looking for alternatives. Any advices? Must run on Linux and must support PostgreSQL's NOTIFY/LISTEN... Thanks & cheers, P. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Leledumbo · 2012-09-14 06:44 Have you tried SQLdb or ZEOS? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2012-09-14 06:48 You may want to look into SQLDB (provided with FPC/Lazarus); Ludob has written a PostgreSQL event monitor component (available since FPC 2.6.1), also available as a Lazarus componentZeos - don't know anything about that one, surely should provide PostgreSQL support I only have some experience running simple programs with PostgreSQL using SQLDb, but it worked well. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- binfch · 2012-09-14 07:02 Hi there In ZEOS there are some known problems with NOTIFY/LISTEN... -> I will take a look at SQLDB. Actually I don't mind to pay a few $ for something that works out of the box and includes some professional support. Thx & cheers, P. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2012-09-14 07:09 Quote from: binfch on September 14, 2012, 09:02:30 am-> I will take a look at SQLDB. Actually I don't mind to pay a few $ for something that works out of the box and includes some professional support. There's always bugs However, PostgreSQL and Firebird seem to be the most popular dbs used by FPC devs, and have the most complete support (I remember a post by, IIRC, marcov about that a while ago). There are some parties that do paid support for FPC/Lazarus, I think - I hope they come forward. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JD · 2012-09-14 08:54 Quote from: BigChimp on September 14, 2012, 08:48:17 amYou may want to look into SQLDB (provided with FPC/Lazarus); Ludob has written a PostgreSQL event monitor component (available since FPC 2.6.1), also available as a Lazarus componentZeos - don't know anything about that one, surely should provide PostgreSQL support Zeos does work with PostgreSQL and it works in Linux also. Aside from SQLDb, it is the only database component I know that supports multiple databases. Here's a mini tutorial about how to use Zeos and PostgreSQL's Notify & Listen http://zeos.firmos.at/viewtopic.php?t=2913&highlight=notify+listen I think the Zeos TPGEventAlerter component handles it. @binfch You can quickly get support from the Zeos forum if you have any questions.
