Database in one file lazarus / 16-Databases ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gienq · 2012-07-18 17:25 Hello, I'm writing simple program to manage license keys (freeware) in Lazarus (old Turbo Delphi Explorer is annoying, so I've switched to Lazarus - awesome IDE!). First, I tried to use typed file to store records, but I didn't know how to make the file password protected. So I have decided to use databases to store informations. I have some questions: 1) Is it possible? 2) Can I encrypt the database and make it password-protected? 3) Which database should I use? Sqlite, dBase (it seems that it's very easy to use) or something else? I don't want to install database servers, just keep data in one, password protected file. Can someone give me step a by step tutorial for beginner? Currently I'm studying Free Pascal Wiki, but additional links and thips are very appreciated! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rocka1 · 2012-07-18 18:31 See here, a few posts down : http://www.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php/topic,17479.0.html I'm doing almost the same ... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gienq · 2012-07-18 19:02 Hmm ok... Can I use ListView component instead of DBGrid (I'm reading tutorials in Wiki...)? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Knipfty · 2012-07-18 19:14 Just a thought while you are designing/writing this app.  You may want to keep the info encrypted in memory and only decrypt when using the info to be even more secure.  Good Luck ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rocka1 · 2012-07-19 12:09 Here you have an example how to encrypt and decrypt : ( using DCPcrypt :  http://www.cityinthesky.co.uk/ ) http://www.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php/topic,15409.msg93763.html# msg93763 But, you can also follow the suggestion of Knipfty. In my opinion, do not forget to give the possibility to filter the data... In my case I have about 250 records, so see them in a Grid or Treeview ... It's not enough Cannot give you much help, since i'm not programming in Lazarus for win32, only for wince, so i dont know in detail how the components work, and they can be different from Delphi ... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gienq · 2012-07-19 14:14 Thanks for the replies. I will give a try.
