Explain sqlquery REFRESH? lazarus / 16-Databases ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Elmug · 2012-07-05 13:41 Hi everyone, Can someone please explain what SQLQuery1.Refresh does? Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ludob · 2012-07-05 13:56 http://www.freepascal.org/docs-html/fcl/db/tdataset.refresh.html ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2012-07-05 14:09 Do you really suggest reading the documentation? Isn't that very boring? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Leledumbo · 2012-07-05 15:07 QuoteDo you really suggest reading the documentation? Isn't that very boring? If I'm ludob, I'll do the same thing. It's overkill to explain what's already explained formally in a proper documentation. Plus, it's a good chance to know whether the documentation is understandable or not. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2012-07-05 15:21 @Leledumbo, I completely agree with ludob.. I was being ironic here.... which doesn't always work well on an online forum, I know. If you look at OP's other threads you'll notice he's been advised - by me as well - repeatedly to look up things first but he keeps asking these questions on the forums without any indication that he even tried to look for documentation. Thanks, BigChimp ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Leledumbo · 2012-07-05 15:49 QuoteI was being ironic here.... which doesn't always work well on an online forum, I know.I sometimes experience the same thing, too ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Elmug · 2012-07-05 18:06 Thanks, ludob, much appreciated. And, BigChimp, thanks for your concerns. It seems to me so far, that no matter how much effort one puts into self-learning, or self-clearing of doubts, will never satisfy some of those who make it a point to keep account of one's endeavor. But the reality is that there is no one that knows everything. I will point out that the documentation, even when found, is often terse. Seldom does it have any examples. For instance, what matters to me on this question is the SEQUENCE of which components acivate or deactivate (become True or False), and in WHICH order. Now, If I have to study the actual units and procedures, to me (personal issue), that is not in accord with the object-programming paradigm, which clearly signals that methods should be encapsulated, and one only need to be aware of their abstract use. Last night I worked on these things from 7 PM to 8 AM Today, and yes, I got the application working, but there are also those things called "bugs" or "conditions" that are never quite clear in ANY documentation. And MUCH of that time was googleing one thing after another, and TRYING things out. Anyone who is a real programmer ought to realize that each one faces his own devil called "limitations", no matter how grand his edification is believed to be. The o-post is the last thing I did after I got it to work. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2012-07-06 05:34 Elmug, I'm not keeping account of your endeavour... the only concern I had was to say in yet another way that it is better to look up things up for yourself before asking. I'll try to refrain from repeating this point again if it doesn't I don't think you should find out everything by yourself... but at the right time ask for details/help indicating what materials you studied and where they are deficient...  following this: http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/Lazarus_Faq#What_is_the_correct_way _to_ask_questions_in_the_forum.3F (one important one is describing what you want to do at a higher level). The way a lot of your questions are formulated come across to me as: "Please look this up for me, I don't want to do this myself"..... because the information you gave in the last post to the contrary isn''t there. Following that FAQ entry when posting will help in multiple ways. And yes, as both you and Leledumbo indicated, the documentation can be improved. You can help: anybody can edit the wiki; one can also edit the fpdoc documentation and submit patches (which is quite a bit more involved). BigChimp ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Elmug · 2012-07-06 19:25 Thanks again, BigChimp. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- regs · 2016-08-27 22:34 Still, i fail to understand how does it work. According to that stub documentation article it just reopens dataset and locating back to selected record. So that works that way. As far as i remember in Delphi it was launching RefreshSQL letting ability to update an only record. This did work in Delphi, as far as I remember. Select * from Table where Key = :Key  Query.Refresh Here it ignores RefreshSQL completely and just relaunching SQL. So how do we refresh?
