TDBEdit On Non Text Field, Error on Delete Value

When I use the TDBEdit to work with a numeric value and the user
deletes the value in the TDBEdit an error occurs Stating that '' is an
invalid float.

This is strange behavior, should the control not return NULL to the
database?

What is the best work around?

Tested with integer and float fields in Lazarus 0.9.31 r34374 FPC
2.4.4 i386-win32-win32/win64 without problems (no error)

Thanks,  I am running V0.9.30 which I downloaded less than a month
ago.

Where can I find the process for updating my copy?

Is there any automatic update facility?
