FIrebird RDBMS Client lazarus / 16-Databases ---------------------------------------------------------------------- braximo · 2011-08-24 06:33 Im just wondering if I still need to install the Firebird client to the client PC for my app to connect to my Firebird Server? As of the moment, I am installing the client to connect to the Firebird server. I've read the documentation about Lazarus and firebird on the wiki but he date was last 2006 (FBLib). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Arbee · 2011-08-24 07:20 Unless I missed something in the mean time the answer is yes, you always need the Firebird client to connect to an FB server. When your databases are on localhost there is of course always the possibility to use FB embedded, which in fact can be described as a client and server in one. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2011-08-24 08:08 Apart from what Arbee said, make sure to use a 32 bit client (or embedded server) in a 32 bit program and 64 bit for 64 bit programs... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- fredycc · 2011-08-24 13:41 Hi, in my case just copy a dll file named fbclient.dll from C:\Program Files\Firebird\Firebird_2_5\bin (default path) to system32, in linux or mac is similar but the extension are .so, if still problems just install firebird in mode client and take a look in operanting system version 32 or 64 bit like Arbee suggest you. Regards. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JD · 2011-08-24 13:54 Quote from: braximo on August 24, 2011, 08:33:54 amIm just wondering if I still need to install the Firebird client to the client PC for my app to connect to my Firebird Server? The documentation here http://www.firebirdfaq.org/ is more recent. It is not restricted to Lazarus of course as it covers all aspects of installing, using & maintaining Firebird databases. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- braximo · 2011-08-25 00:55 Thanks for the knowledge sharing...
