Trouble installing sqlite3 components lazarus / 16-Databases ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kellemes · 2011-07-24 11:10 I'm following http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/Lazarus_Database_Tuto rial#Lazarus_and_SQLite to install the sqlite3 components.. Using.. Xubuntu 11.04 Lazarus 0.9.30-0 FPC 2.4.2 Also I have installed.. libsqlite3-dev (3.7.4-2ubuntu5) sqlite3 (3.7.4-2ubuntu5) Now.. The guide states I need to install the components at /usr/lib/lazarus/0.9.30/components/sqlite/ I see there are two packages.. sqlite3laz.lpk and sqlitelaz.lpk Whatever package I choose, when I try to install I get.. /usr/lib/lazarus/0.9.30/ide/lazarus.pp(1,1) Fatal: Can't find unit sqlite3laz used by Lazarus I assume this is /usr/lib/lazarus/0.9.30/components/sqlite/sqlite3laz.pas I have to add this path to the Other Unit Files at Compiler Options? Anyway, if I do I get the message: Unable to create backup directory "/usr/lib/lazarus/0.9.30/components/sqlite/backup". Obviously because I started Lazarus as user.. not as root. Should I startup Lazarus as root for installing packages maybe? Need some guidance.. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Leledumbo · 2011-07-24 17:44 QuoteCan't find unit sqlite3laz used by LazarusNot always the real messages, copy all hidden messages as well. QuoteI have to add this path to the Other Unit Files at Compiler Options? No, remember that compiler options is for your project, not the IDE. And even so, making your project depends on this package is the only sane way, NEVER EVER add package source directory to compiler options. QuoteShould I startup Lazarus as root for installing packages maybe?Yup, or simply gives it read write permission for everyone (that's what I did). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- aslearner · 2011-10-17 15:36 Hi there, I have this same problem with sqlite3. My system is Lubuntu 10.04 LTS Lazarus 0.9.30 FPC 2.4.2-0 Even if I run Code: [Select]sudo startlazarus in a console I still get the same error as kellemes, and though I have examined the full list of errors, none of them are of any help to me.  The error seems to be returned as soon as the FPC compiler starts to work on Lazarus. The reply higher in this thread from Leledumbo  QuoteYup, or simply gives it read write permission for everyone (that's what I did). is not clear because the answer does not say what *it* is that needs read/write permissions. A fuller explanation might help me to get the package installed so that I can use the TSQLiteDataset. Basically, my main objective is to build a small application to read and write to five relational database tables. It is essential that two of these tables have master-detail relationships with some of the other tables. It is not very important what the actual database management system should be, so that if some of the other Lazarus database components would be able to do this job then I would be glad to move over to using them instead of SQLite. Thanks for any advice, Andrew Smith ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TurboRascal · 2011-10-22 00:53 About filesystem permissions you may take a look at this thread, there I described a working solution which might help... It's similar to allowing write permissions to anyone, but a bit more secure if that matters. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- aslearner · 2011-10-23 22:07 Thanks Arny, I had temporarily solved the problem by using the third method in your linked message, but I agree that it was a poor solution. I will shortly be checking the groups route to this goal. For interest I also date back to Turbo days, having first used Borland languages with Turbo Basic back in the Nineties. When they stopped developing that I moved to Super Basic for a short time but have been with Delphi and Pascal based languages since Delphi v1. And here I am now twenty or so years on, still learning, and like other people missing the excellent Borland manuals and Help systems! Thanks again, Andrew Smith ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TurboRascal · 2011-10-25 19:41 Quote from: aslearner on October 24, 2011, 12:07:12 amThanks Arny, I had temporarily solved the problem by using the third method in your linked message, but I agree that it was a poor solution. I will shortly be checking the groups route to this goal. I'm glad if that helped you I'd however encourage you to try with the groups. The easiest way is to change group of that directory to an appropriate group you already belong to (I used adm group on Ubuntu), then chmod write access for the group as described. Just two commands executed in the directory...
