Firebird and SqlLite lazarus / 16-Databases ---------------------------------------------------------------------- xinyiman · 2010-06-29 21:39 Hello, I would ask those who have already used or firebird SqlLite the validity of the DB. In as much sense until you can handle lots of data in an easy manner? Assuming a normal amd dual core with 4 GB of RAM can handle rapidly a mass of about 20 million records? The simultaneous multi-user supported? Thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JD · 2010-06-29 23:33 Quote from: xinyiman on June 29, 2010, 11:39:22 pmHello, I would ask those who have already used or firebird SqlLite the validity of the DB. The simultaneous multi- user supported? Thanks I use Firebird server (multi-user) on an Intel dual core machine & even though my database does not have 12 million records (yet), it contains many stored procedures used for creating ad-hoc reports & dynamic user defined queries. It runs smoothly without problems. For more details of Firebird use in large multiuser environments, consult the IBPhoenix website below http://www.ibphoenix.com/main.nfs?a=ibphoenix&s=1277891375:700673&page =ibp_users_firebird I tend to use sqlite for smaller single-user projects. I've never used it in a multi-user environment. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- xinyiman · 2010-06-29 23:38 Thank you ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JD · 2010-06-30 00:06 Quote from: xinyiman on June 30, 2010, 01:38:25 amThank you You're very welcome. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- fredycc · 2010-06-30 11:40 Hi, xinyiman; I use Firebird server on machines with similar specifications, over windows and linux, not 20 million records yet but 9 Gb of data, why? I stored some blob data, like pictures without problems, with the new version of firebird 2.5 release 2 you can query to a external firebird database, this works great; I have many stored procedures and udf, In my case I can compile with lazarus differents versions of my udf for different platforms. SQlite works great for single user, I use it with wince. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- xinyiman · 2010-06-30 19:17 Thank you infinitely! Then the blob for images work well with firebird and works well even remotely Question? Well it was just what I needed to know! Many thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------------- xinyiman · 2010-06-30 19:20 FireBird there with a GUI that is easy to create tables in a visual way, such as phpMyAdmin for MySql? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JD · 2010-06-30 20:07 I can also confirm that Firebird works great with blob data fields. Quote from: xinyiman on June 30, 2010, 09:20:38 pmFireBird there with a GUI that is easy to create tables in a visual way, such as phpMyAdmin for MySql? Here are the ones I've personally used 1) IBExpert Personal Edition   http://ibexpert.net/ibe/index.php?n=Main.PersonalEdition It is free & is the one I currently use. Available in 13 languages. It is miles better than the oft-quoted free FlameRobin & in addition, IBExpert can work in Ubuntu Linux using Wine. I simply can't do without it. All the good work & success I've had with Firebird databases is due to this excellent piece of freeware. Their IBExpert Developer Studio has much more features but I find that the Personal Edition is enough for my needs. 2) DbVisualizer   http://www.dbvis.com/ A "universal" database manager. Works on all platforms (Windows, Linux & Mac) because it was written in Java. They have a free limited personal version that needs to be activated using a freely obtained license key. Can be a little messy to set up. It requires the Jaybird dll that enables java to Firebird connections. 3) Firebird Maestro   http://www.sqlmaestro.com/products/firebird/maestro/ This is an excellent product but it is not free. It is one of the best Firebird database managers I've ever seen. 4) SQLManager Lite for Interbase & Firebird   http://www.sqlmanager.net/en/products/ibfb/manager A free limited version of their full scale SQLManager product. Does a good job. By the way, if you need to manage SQlite databases, try the free SQLite Expert Personal Edition http://www.sqliteexpert.com/download.html Happy hunting. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- xinyiman · 2010-06-30 20:17 Thank you ---------------------------------------------------------------------- clauslack · 2010-07-01 14:10 This is another great GUI for Firebird. http://www.flamerobin.org/ FlameRobin is a database administration tool for Firebird DBMS. FlameRobin will get better & may one day offer features needed to replace other DBMS but it is not there yet. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- cdbc · 2010-07-03 09:08 Hi xinyiman Have a look at fenixsql, http://fblib.altervista.org This tool is written in pascal... hth - Regards Benny ---------------------------------------------------------------------- xinyiman · 2010-07-05 06:01 Thank you
