Any progress on a TMySQL51Connection?

I have found that I can connect to MySQL 5.1 if I use the libmysql.dll
for 5.0 with the existing TMySQL50Connection - however the appropriate
libmysql.dll for 5.0 is getting hard to find and this may prevent new
users from using lazarus at all for MySQL front ends. Is it known
whether anyone is working on a  TMySQL51Connection? Given the
popularity of MySQL I would think that many users would like a new
TMySQLxxConnection as soon as MySQL updates if possible...

FPC 2.4.0 is available so I might try upgrading (eg instructions here:
http://www.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php?topic=8310.0).
I assume that this won't put a 5.1 component in the component bar, but
in code I can just use TMySQL51Connection - is that correct?

Afaik the TMySQL50Connection should work.

I have just found the updated mysqlconn.inc in Lazarus bug reports
(Theo above) that is supposed to allow TMySQL50Connection to use the
libmysql.dll for mysql 5.1. If I put this in
\Lazarus\fpc\2.2.4\source\packages\fcl-db\src\sqldb\mysql will it just
work or will I need to do Tools | Build Lazarus (which options?)?

You could install the latest snapshot using FPC 2.5.1 from
ftp://ftp.freepascal.org/pub/lazarus/snapshots/
