ODBC character set problems lazarus / 16-Databases ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FatCat · 2009-12-13 15:30 Hi everyone, First off: I'm not really a programmer, I'm just a guy who sometimes throws together a pack of objects to simplify routine tasks. BTW: last time I did some serious throwing together, Delphi 1 (yes, that's right: one) was still the bee's knees. Anyhow, I'm trying to put together an interface to convert MSSQL data (SQL Server 2000) to fdf-files. The conversion progress is actually quite simple: running routines to write text files that contain defs that can be read by AcroReader to fill predefined forms. After days of pottering around with the Lazarus IDE, I've managed to retrieve data from my MSSQL databases, so yay for me.  Problem is, however, that here in Belgium we tend to run into diacritical marks quite often (accents and the works). The ensemble of data aware components in Lazarus just drops the extended characters. In Delphi it used to be very simple: you made the query fields accessible from the object inspector and you set the "translation" parameter to False. Problem fixed. In Lazarus, this parameter does not exist. I've tried changing the translation options in ODBC Administrator, but this doesn't work. Any ideas out there? Thanks in advance, Frank ---------------------------------------------------------------------- stanks · 2010-01-11 10:59 similar problem i solved with AnsiToUTF8: AnsiToUTF8(query.FieldByName('sifra').AsString + ' - ' + query.FieldByName('naziv').AsString) and now i have eastern europe chars (before i had only ?)
