Why not just integrate ZEOS into the project? lazarus / 16-Databases ---------------------------------------------------------------------- piper62 · 2008-07-13 08:15 Hi, I know it might release a bloody discussion but I would like to ask why there's the development of a separate DB abstraction layer? ZeosLib is there and has - as I know - a very stable level and more complete capabilities. Why not using this and skip the development of the SQL components? Wouldn't it be useful not to re-invent the wheel and to concentrate the developer know-how? I guess we can make much more progress if we concentrate the efforts. Only a question... Looking forward to opinions. Regards, Tibor ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Vincent Snijders · 2008-07-13 18:21 I asked this question on IRC, see log. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Zaher · 2008-07-14 15:01 Quote Wouldn't it be useful not to re-invent the wheel You can not say that in programming world, it make the wheel stop whirling. As like there is many database engines then must be there many of database connections component. As i know ZeosLib try emulate old fashion DB with New (SQL RDBMS ...) DB that make some slowly when use it (i am not sure that what my coworker said ). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- piper62 · 2008-07-16 21:20 I can't say that this is correct. We use ZEOS now over one year in a large project in the health care context. At the moment we have ca. 50,000 lines of code and a lot of modules. Every module works with the database (over ZEOS) inclusive transactions, record locking etc. Our experience is to have excellent features and we can't see any performance problems caused by ZEOS at the moment. Most times if you have performance problems with database applications you have a problem with you data model or with the maintainance of the database. I'm only thinking about the possibilities if all the brain power would be more focussed... Thinking about more implemented database drivers, nice features, more people to help or to make possible fixes... As I said: It's only an idea/question. Regards
