mysql50 connection: server connect failed - what's wrong?

Hello

  I'm not a Pascal programmer, and I have a problem. I'm using
someone's application written for me in Pascal and I don't know much
about it. Recently after windows automatic update(sp1 and sp2)
application started to give aforementioned error: "mysql50 connection:
server connect failed". Nothing was changed except update. Is it
possible that this is related? Unfortunately I can't release source
for it because its copyrighted. I tried to recompile the program but
latest version of lazarus fails*. Application compiled in older
version of lazarus is broken as described before - connection to
database is crashing few minutes after connection starts(~400000 rows
loaded). Any ideas? Further questions ? I'm clueless .

Well, if you upgraded to Win XP SP2 you must have installed the built-
in firewall - maybe it is blocking connections to the mySQL server or
something (it's just a guess, as I have  worked with databases only
with java but I remember having to make a firewall rule to open the
port for MS SQL Server)
