Hello.
I modified fb_embedded2.pas originally written for Delphi by Fikret
Hasovic. Now it works with Lazarus, but only on Windows.
fb_embedded2.pas is a Pascal unit that can be included in a Lazarus
project to enable embedding of Firebird database server into an .exe
file. It reads lib from memory stream. No installation is required.
Just copy the content of this folder into your project directory and
include fb_embedded2.pas into your application.
I uploaded the zipped file to megaupload.com. You can download it from
the following link:

It would be great if someone rewrites it to be cross-platform...

This code depend on Resource, and Dll for Windows, extracted in
windows system dir, i do not think it is good idea to be in Linux, in
fact for me it is not good for windows also.

There were 203 downloads of the fb_embedded2 till now and no comments.
I'm wondering whether you are satisfied or not...and what do you think
could it be rewritten to be cross-platform? Has anybody tried since
now?

Very interesting idea.
In most of my DB work I use already deployed DB servers or I can
afford to deply one, but for embedded use, tha't very interesting.
About multi-platform, that may be more complicated, as you may have to
embed a full classic server?

It is fake not real embedded the Firebird inside EXE, any EXE throw a
files (dll) can take as Trojan project,
Standalone exe must not depened on dll even in resources,
Some administrators make Windows folder or other folders readonly for
users that prevent from extract this files.

There are no extracted DLLs from .exe compiled using fb_embedded2, as
far as I understand it.
In which moment do you think extraction of DLLs take place? On first
using of an .exe or what?
I think you misunderstand something.
The generated .exe is completely independent from any DLLs.
It was the case with fb_embedded (version 1 for Delphi) that DLLs were
extracted, but fb_embedded2 uses memory stream....
Can you prove your claims?

Thanks tatamata, i reviewed and i have mistaken, the good idea it i
can learn how to load DLL from memory
And you can use it with SQLite.dll

For now i still prefer send dll files with my exe than load it from
memory or extract it.

No, I haven't done it for Firebird 2.1.X yet. Currently I am busy...
It should not be difficult to adjust the fb_embedded2.pas for the
2.1.X, on your own, though. Just look to the DLLs names...
