Remote connect to firebird lazarus / 16-Databases ---------------------------------------------------------------------- egsuh · 2023-07-05 11:34 Hi, I'm trying to connect Firebird file from another PC within our office -- connected via a home router.  All PCs are Windows. I've set up the PC that have the DB file.  - sharing the folder -> I can see the folder and create a file in the folder from remote PC.  - Allowing connection via port 3050 in the Firewall of DB-containing PC Then, with FlameRobin of remote PC, I registered a new server,       - Hostname : 192.168.0.4       - Port number : 3050 Then I can find the DB file from remote PC, and registered the database in the FlameRobin. So far, good. But I cannot connect to the DB --- error message saying that unavailable resource. What is missing in connecting? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- korba812 · 2023-07-05 12:20 If you want to share a Firebird database then you need to install a Firebird server. You cannot use a shared folder for this purpose. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- egsuh · 2023-07-05 12:33 The PC that has the DB file is running Firebird Server. Isn't it good enough to IP address as Host and Port number? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- korba812 · 2023-07-05 12:48 This should suffice for the server address ("Server registration info" in FlameRobin). You need to provide the database name, which should include the full local path to the database file on the server ("Database registration info" in FlameRobin). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eljo · 2023-07-05 16:55 Quote from: egsuh on July 05, 2023, 02:33:21 pmThe PC that has the DB file is running Firebird Server. Other than that yes you should be able to connect with this information to any firebird server. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eljo · 2023-07-05 16:59 Quote from: korba812 on July 05, 2023, 02:48:30 pmThis should suffice for the server address ("Server registration info" in FlameRobin). Unless there is an alias in the databases.cfg file in the installation dir, then you do not need the complete path. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- egsuh · 2023-07-06 06:12 Thank you for your advices. I typed in \\BRIO-LENOVO\DB\mydb.fdb for database path. I changed it to d:\\DB\mydb.fdb and it works now. Sharing folder would not be necessary.
