converting a GUI app into a console app

Wonder if anyone has done this before?  I've got a GUI app that I'd
like to convert to a console app.  I've removed all the uneeded forms
except the main form which is referred to in many places in the main
unit and is, of course, integral to the app being a GUI app. 

I can easily remove the references to form1 but how do I finally get
rid of the form1?

Hi, well I think it depends.
Important is to know: what does your application do?
If I where you I would use another approach: i would create a console
application project and then copy/add there the procedure/functions or
maybe units. Doing it the other what round seems more complicated to
me.
Did you remove the form related stuff into project1.lpr ?

But I still suggest to do the other way round

I've been trying the method you suggested and agree it may be the
best.  Make the console app a sort of wrapper that makes calls into
what used to be my main unit.
