Debugger Enhancement lazarus / 12-Debugger ---------------------------------------------------------------------- markus_ja · 2016-06-29 08:51 Hello, after the information came up, that EMB (Idera) is closing its spanish office (where 80 people did work on RAD Studio). A lot of delphi people are now worried about the future of delphi and looking to switch to lazarus (as well as me). The biggest reason which prevents me to switch completely to lazarus is its debugger (e.g. investigating properties, function invokations, ...) The code editor looks pretty mature to me, and feels pretty comfortable! https://forums.embarcadero.com/thread.jspa?threadID=215481 Is there a plan to enhance the debugger? Maybe the new founded Lazarus foundation can help with denotions? http://foundation.freepascal.org/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- d.ioannidis · 2016-06-29 09:17 Hi,   AFAIU, the problem with the debugging ability of free pascal / lazarus, is the quality ( or lack of ) of the gdb in windows platform plus the fact that gdb is more a C++ debugging tool and doesn't have support for some pascal constructs .   I don't know how this can be addressed. Writing a debugger is not an easy task plus I think the choice of using gdb was everything to do with gdb supports multiple different platforms. regards, ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rvk · 2016-06-29 10:19 I seem to recall there are some efforts with a native debugger for Lazarus/FPC. fpdebug and duby. Not sure what the status of these are. Saludos
