Running Debugger in Mountain Lion and Up lazarus / 12-Debugger ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JimKueneman · 2013-10-27 14:02 Hi,    I have Mountain Lion on my laptop and recently installed Xcode 5 on it.  I can't recall if I had ever run the debugger in Lazarus on it but the debugger just hangs if I set a break point. So after reading a few threads here on Mountain Lion and Mavericks is there a way to run Lazarus on newer OSX and have the debugger work with a minimal amount of effort if I don't care about Xcode?    If I uninstall XCode 5 and start over with an older version of Xcode command line tools does that get me back up and running with Lazarus?  I really want to update all my machines to Maverick but not at the cost of struggling to get Lazarus working again. Thanks, Jim ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Martin_fr · 2013-10-27 14:39 Afaik XCode5 does no longer install a gdb. You need to build it (Macports, or similar) If you do have a gdb, then there may be an issue with that particular version. I have not yet seen any gdb (from version 6.3 to version 7.6.x) that does not crash somewhere. (That applies to all platforms) On windows (and probably linux) 7.6 as far as I can say is worse than 7.5.1. . But that may be different on Mac. First thing you should try is setting the debug info type. (Afaik fpc defaults to "stabs" on mac). Go to "project options" > Debugger: Try "Dwarf with sets" Do not use "dwarf 3". If that  also does not work, create a log: http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/GDB_Debugger_Tips#Log_info_for_debu g_session ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JimKueneman · 2013-10-27 23:11 Nothing worked then I noticed after trying to step I was doing something else and I saw it suddenly step a few steps.  Turns out when I was looking for how to stop the timeout dialog (WarnOnTimeOut) I set the TimeOutForEval to some huge number.  My mistake. Thanks. Jim ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Martin_fr · 2013-10-27 23:41 You can safely set the TimeOut to 50. Or whatever the lowest value is, that is accepted, and that is greater than zero. But do NOT set it to zero (well you can but it has no benefit, only risks) Setting it to 0 means the debugger will hang forever, if a timeout occurs. (and since you did obviously got some ...) there is a boolean to suppress the dialog. A message will still be sent to the debug event-log. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- freq · 2013-11-03 17:32 I submitted a fix that solves gdb 6.3.50 debugger hang under MacOS 10.6.8.
