GDB crash lazarus / 12-Debugger ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nik_pc · 2012-09-06 12:55 Hi all, since I had the 0.9.30.4 version (now I have the latest 1.0) I'm troubling with the debugger because it crashes every time the application I want to debug is starting up, for every program I try to debug (also the empty default application). The problem has began the day I uninstalled Internet Explorer 8 from my XP Home, trying to increase pc performances. Supposing the gdb.exe file needs some specific dll, I re-installed Internet Explorer 8 (included all the patches from Windows Update), but nothing to do: gdb.exe still raising Access Violation. Can someone help me? Nick ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Martin_fr · 2012-09-06 13:21 Is your CPU 64 or 32 bit? Is your XP  64 or 32 bit? And is your Lazarus  64 or 32 bit? Do you have an antivirus? Which one? Bitdefender and Comodo have in the past caused trouble. For Bitdefender try game-mode, comodo see here http://forum.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php/topic,7065.0.html At what time does GDB crash? Can you start it from console? (startmenu "Run": "cmd.exe", then change dir to gdb and start it. Which version does it report (if it starts) ---------------------- If gdb starts in the above: Lazarus "Project" menu, "project options", tab "linking", try "dwarf2 (with sets)" Test with an empty new project. If you use stuff from other packages, they may impose a different setting. If in works with an empty project, you need to check the options of any package that you use. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nik_pc · 2012-09-06 14:32 Hi Martin, CPU, XP and Lazarus are 32 bit. I have Microsoft Security Essential as antivirus. GDB crash just when the application is starting. With an empty project it crash too. I'll give a try from console asap. Thank you by now ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Martin_fr · 2012-09-06 15:13 You may want to try http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/GDB_Debugger_Tips#gdb.exe_has_stopp ed_working ----- Current gdb for win 32, include dll. All to go in the same folder. Ensure you have no other versions of this dll in PATH (e.g. if you have cygwin or mingw installed): http://svn.freepascal.org/svn/lazarus/binaries/i386-win32/gdb/bin/ With svn, you can get older versions too (for testing). On mingw is gdb 7.5. You should not use it. The IDE does not support it yet ----- If gdb can be started from cmd.exe then please generate a log as described here http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/GDB_Debugger_Tips#Log_info_for_debu g_session ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nik_pc · 2012-09-06 20:06 QuoteYou may want to try http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/GDB_Debugger_Tips#gdb.exe_has_stopp ed_working This worked for me. Now the debugger seems ok. Thanks a lot!
