Repalcement of GDB lazarus / 12-Debugger ---------------------------------------------------------------------- qoxop · 2012-06-15 13:15 I would like to ask if there is some possibility to use some other debugger as standard GDB. When I start debug my program in the lazarus IDE, gdb.exe crash(due to static loading some third-party dll whicj is used in my program). When I debug it in the OllyDBG, everything is OK. Can I use somethink else, e.g. Olly debugger? Thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Martin_fr · 2012-06-15 15:31 Out of the box, the IDE only supports GDB. If you have problems, with GDB itself crashing, I recommend trying different versions (even older ones) from the mingw site (32 bit). 64 bit can be found here http://www.drangon.org/mingw/ / on the mingw64 bit site , or on http://svn.freepascal.org/svn/lazarus/binaries (may need an SVN client) 32 bit: Lazarus currently uses GDB 7.3.  It works fine with GDB 7.4 too (but 7.4 has a regression with certain breakpoints. The IDE works around that) 7.0.50 was a good version, but I am not sure if it supports all the dll stuff you may need. Also GDB has problems with certain AntiVirus software (the info may be outdated): - Comodo firewall: Search this forum, there is a how to make it work - Bitdefender: Set Bitdefender to "game mode" --- As for replacing GDB. The IDE has an interface to register other debuggers.  BUT that does not mean to directly register some 3rd party. This means to register a pascal class, specially written for Lazarus, that takes requests from the IDE, and translates them and sends them to a debugger. (and vice versa) I do not know if OllyDBG provides an interface, so it can be controlled and communicate with an other application. If it does, then a wrapper can be written. It will just need someone who will write it. It's quite some work. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Martin_fr · 2012-06-15 15:33 If you do want to use another debugger outside the IDE, you need to find one, that supports either "stabs" or "dwarf". This are both names for how debug info is encoded into the exe. Delphi uses a different format. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Leledumbo · 2012-06-15 15:51 There's actually a few efforts to create own debugger, but these effort hasn't finished yet. Care to continue them? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- qoxop · 2012-06-26 19:16 Thanks for answers. I tried all versions of gdb from 7.0.50, but it always crash. I think there are two reasons: Dll is wrong builded (it is C dll), and second: gdb has a bug. Unfortunatelly, it seems to me, switching of debuger in lazarus is nearly impossible. I'm a big fan of fpdebug and Duby, but I'm a little bit sceptic, if they will be finished in this century  . Because writting of debuger is beyond my coding skills.... Hopefully some pascal gurus can do that. nevertheless, probably the best way will be to fix a bug in gdb. One more time thanks for answers, and if you got some new ideas about this, please write it down here bye ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Martin_fr · 2012-06-26 20:45 Is that dll public available? Is there a small simple test app? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- qoxop · 2012-06-27 18:05 No, unfortunately, dll is not public available. It is propietary library. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Martin_fr · 2012-06-28 19:46 In the options go to the debugger page, there is a property grid, first line "debugger_startup_options" . Enter:      --eval-command="set auto-solib-add off" and it will work. (But no symbols for any dll will be loaded. Debugging inside dll will be assembler only)
