[SOLVED] variable if I can have breakpoints or not lazarus / 12-Debugger ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Pascaluvr · 2012-04-11 07:23 This is really weird. I was having a problem with a program and set a breakpoint just before where I thought the problem started.  That worked fine and was able to step through the code.  I thought I had discovered the problem and so I reset the breakpoint  and allowed my program to finish. I fixed the problem and recompiled and ran again.  Still had a problem, so I wanted to set the breakpoint again.   No such luck - the little circles in the trough disappeared and clicking in the trough just gave me a '?'.  I managed to get the debugging working by: Clicking the line of code I wanted a breakpoint at and the Clicking - Run to curser. I am not suggesting this is a bug - its probably something stupid I am doing.  Any ideas would be appreciated. Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit Laz 0.9.30.4 FPC 2.6.0 svn 35940 i386-win32-win32/win64  (running fpc/laz 32 bit on a win7 64 bit) Thanks in advance ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Martin_fr · 2012-04-11 10:57 See http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/Debugger_Setup After running the app do you get the blue dots next to the line numbers? if you hav many try/except http://bugs.freepascal.org/view.php?id=20183 if persits http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/GDB_Debugger_Tips#Check_existing_Re ports What is in the "debug output" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Pascaluvr · 2012-04-11 17:29 Hi Martin, I initially had the blue dots in the gutter and thats how I initially set the breakpoint.  Used this for a few iterations and all was fine. When I clicked on the breakpoint to turn it off, all the blue dots disappeared as well.  Obvious if I click in the gutter now I get a '?'.  I can still use the debugger though by  clicking on the line of code and then using the 'Run to Cursor' option - which works well, but obviously restricts me to one breakpoint.   (also not a big issue at the moment). The only thing in my setup that I didn't have the same was I didn't have 'Generate dwarf debug  ....' checked.  I have done so now and will play with this again tomorrow,  but that hasn't returned the blue dots.    BTW what does dwarf do?  I thought dwarf was an alternative debugger to GDB? Also I have tried stopping and starting Lazarus and even rebooting, but the blue dots refuse to return. Thanks for your help. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- User137 · 2012-04-11 18:12 You can also try F5 to add breakpoints. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- garlar27 · 2012-04-11 18:25 AFAIK the blue dots are visible only while the project is running under Lazarus. Once execution has stopped they disappear. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Pascaluvr · 2012-04-11 19:37 Quote from: User137 on April 11, 2012, 08:12:56 pmYou can also try F5 to add breakpoints. yep ... also comes up with a '?' in the gutter thanks for the reply ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Pascaluvr · 2012-04-11 19:39 Quote from: garlar27 on April 11, 2012, 08:25:00 pmAFAIK the blue dots are visible only while the project is running under Lazarus.
