Lazarus 2.0.6 on Ubuntu 20.04 problem and soluition lazarus / 1-Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MornixRS · 2020-12-17 13:27 Recently i installed Ubuntu 20.04 Desktop and lazarus 2.0.6 from the Ubuntu software installer. Two problems occured. First the lazarus icon was blank but it would start when run from the Unity app list. Second when added to the dock it would start with an unfinished boot screen and eventually a message would pop up that some file could not be found. Solutions found online (including removing and installing it from deb packages) did not help. Eventually i tracked down the problem to an unhappy combination of Unity/Dock and svg type of the app icon. Solution: - create a new app icon in Inkscape (i downlaoded a Lazarus png and imported it into inkscape) and save it as a standard svg (not the inkscape svg) - replace the app icon in /usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/apps (i deleted the old one and copied the new one instead of replacing it) - make sure you keep the name exactly the same or you also have to edit the .desktop file in /usr/share/applications and change the icon name After this i got the icon showing and Lazarus also started from the Dock. Hope this is helpful. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Handoko · 2020-12-17 13:38 Thank you for sharing what you found. Maybe not related, it has many times Lazarus did not show on the my Ubuntu Mate's menu if I install it. Not only Lazarus, it also happens on many others application installations. I found a quick simply easy solution: restart my Ubuntu Mate, everything will be perfect later. Some said Linux does not need to restart frequently as Windows does but my experience says different. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JuhaManninen · 2020-12-17 14:29 Observation: The problems both of you face are with Ubuntu! Coincidence? The vast majority of Lazarus installation etc. problems on Linux reported here are about Ubuntu. We can only guess the reasons. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Handoko · 2020-12-17 14:33 Calm down sir. I did not say that was Lazarus problem. I just want to tell the OP, maybe simply restarting the computer can fix the issue. The issue mentioned by OP is so weird to me. I've been using Lazarus + Ubuntu for maybe 10 years, never have such missing icon problem. Maybe because I frequently restart my computer.
