Linux Mint 17.2 (cinnamon) 32 bit, install fail. Help requested. lazarus / 1-Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dodgeydave · 2016-04-06 08:56 Hi. Been using Lazarus 1.6 on Windows for a while, trying to duplicate on Linux. This is on a 32 bit system (I have other reasons for sticking with 32 bits) and have tried all the "solutions" I can find, with no success. fpc 3.0.0 IS installed, and the sources too. dave@G0WBX-Dell-System-XPS-L502X ~/Downloads $ fpc -i -l Free Pascal Compiler version 3.0.0 Compiler date      : 2015/11/24 Compiler CPU target: i386 Supported targets (targets marked with '{*}' are under development):   Go32v2: GO32 V2 DOS extender   Linux: Linux for i386   OS2: OS/2   Win32: Win32 for i386   FreeBSD: FreeBSD/ELF for i386   solaris: Solaris for i386 {*}   Beos: Beos for i386 {*}   NetBSD: NetBSD for i386 {*}   Netware: Netware for i386(clib)   WDOSX: WDOSX DOS extender   OpenBSD: OpenBSD for i386 {*}   EMX: OS/2 via EMX   WATCOM: Watcom compatible DOS extenders   Netwlibc: Netware for i386(libc)   WinCE: WinCE for i386   Darwin: Darwin for i386   embedded: Embedded   Symbian: Symbian OS for i386   Haiku: Haiku for i386 {*}   NativeNT: Native NT for i386 {*}   iPhoneSim: Darwin/iPhoneSim for i386   Android: Android for i386   aros: AROS for i386 Supported CPU instruction sets:   80386,PENTIUM,PENTIUM2,PENTIUM3,PENTIUM4,PENTIUMM,COREI,COREAVX   COREAVX2 Supported FPU instruction sets:   X87,SSE,SSE2,SSE3,SSSE3,SSE41,SSE42,AVX,AVX2 Supported inline assembler modes:   STANDARD   ATT   INTEL Recognized compiler and RTL features:   HEAP,INITFINAL,RTTI,CLASSES,EXCEPTIONS,EXITCODE,ANSISTRINGS,WIDESTRI NGS   TEXTIO,CONSOLEIO,FILEIO,RANDOM,VARIANTS,OBJECTS,DYNARRAYS,THREADING   COMMANDARGS,PROCESSES,STACKCHECK,DYNLIBS,SOFTFPU,OBJECTIVEC1,RESOURCES   UNICODESTRINGS Supported ABI targets:   DEFAULT   OLDWIN32GNU Supported Optimizations:   REGVAR   UNCERTAIN   STACKFRAME   PEEPHOLE   ASMCSE   LOOPUNROLL   TAILREC   CSE   DFA   USEEBP   ORDERFIELDS   FASTMATH   REMOVEEMPTYPROCS   CONSTPROP Supported Whole Program Optimizations:   All   DEVIRTCALLS   OPTVMTS   SYMBOLLIVENESS This program comes under the GNU General Public Licence For more information read COPYING.v2 Please report bugs in our bug tracker on:                  http://bugs.freepascal.org More information may be found on our WWW pages (including directions for mailing lists useful for asking questions or discussing potential new features, etc.):                  http://www.freepascal.org The sources are in:- ~/fpc-3.0.0 The .deb package fails with dependancy tests relating to fpc-3.0.0 not being found (but it's there!) I see many similar issues all relating to Ubuntu clones etc, but none of the "solutions" I've tried have worked... This 32 bit install of Mint 17.2 is fast, stable and up-to-date. If I need to remove and clean everything and start over, then "Exactly" how to do that please. Help please? Regards. Dave B ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Leledumbo · 2016-04-06 09:52 Start from understanding the compiler configuration file. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dodgeydave · 2016-04-06 15:05 Yeah, right. Less than helpfull.  Thanks a lot!  (not.) D ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dodgeydave · 2016-04-06 17:45 Well.. I eventually and painfully manually removed all the FPC stuff, old and new.   Got the system to do an update, and also more by accident than design found the hidden .deb files at... https://sourceforge.net/projects/lazarus/files/Lazarus%20Linux%20i386% 20DEB/Lazarus%201.6/ Why are the 32 bit files so well hidden?  One has to hunt high and low for them for some reason.   There is good reason to stick with 32 bit OS's, when targeting embedded system hardware. Anyway, running sudo dpkg -i on, fpc, fpc-src, and lazarus in that order, and it's running.  Well, The next problem was that on compiling I got the infamous "unable to find gettext" unit error.   The fix for that it seems, is to put "LazUtils" in the "uses" list in the project source, as documented elsewhere on this forum.   That could probably be also done in It has now built a simple test program that uses a timer to blink a toggle button on and off.   Though it is complaining about duplicate fpc files, and some older than the compiler itself, but doesnt give much of a clue as to where the "old" files are, so I could remove them. It's only taken nearly three days to get this done, quite why the needed .deb's for Debian/Ubuntu/Mint etc are so well hidden from view goodness only knows. I'm sure I'll be back with more issues as time progresses.  But in the mean time, if anyone has a clue as to how to identify and clean out duplicate fpc files, it would be good to know. Re someone's issue regarding a cluttered toolbar on Mint when you minimize Laz', needing each and every window individualy re-opening.   Just run the entire Laz' session in a different workspace, and flip between that and others as needed.   Simples. 73.
