Lazarus cannot browse read only folders lazarus / 1-Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Axel · 2013-06-05 10:31 Hi,  I have spent the last few days trying to find a solution for the following Lazarus error but no luck so far and wondered if anyone else had come across this one? I have Lazarus V1.0.8 installed on Linux Mint 15. I cannot use the file open / save dialogs in the IDE unless the folders are read/write. Adding images to Timagelist, saving project etc all generate the following error: Access violation. Press OK to ignore and risk data corruption. Press Cancel to kill the program. It seems to occur whenever I browse to a folder that is read only. I have found many solutions , mainly from years ago and the answer is usually to load the latest Lazarus version which by now is way out of date.  Also found one reference to "incompatible to gtk2" use latest version of lazarus. None specifically reference the read only folder issue. Seems to be a Lazarus on Linux issue from my research to date. Any ideas? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Leledumbo · 2013-06-05 13:39 I can't reproduce with trunk r41021 (1.1), might be a bug in 1.0.8 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Axel · 2013-06-05 19:25 Thanks for the reply.  It was occurring in the version installed by Linux Mint Software Manager, 0.9.30.4, and I changed to 1.08 to try rectify the issue. I did try to manually clean out all config files and any leftover files from the Mint Software Manager un-install process relating to Lazarus to do a completely clean install.  Installed from deb files as this is a new Linux installation and I am still trying to get used to Linux. I should also mention that Pressing either OK or Cancel immediately closes the program. I have worked around the issue by moving all images, icons, project folders etc to a single read/write folder so I do not have to browse through any read only folders which causes an immediate crash but any help would be appreciated. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Conn · 2014-03-07 21:09 I have exactly the same problem... I am using LinuxMint 16 (installed the latest version to test) and lazarus_1.0.14-0_i386.deb but then I've uninstalled the latest version and switched back to the officially supported version 1.0.10... Same thing. Then I changed the "owner" of environment directories including all the other Lazarus directories and made all of them rewritable. IDE works fine, I can create NEW application and compile it just fine. When I try to OPEN a sample app or try to save mine *Access violation* I've even tried to change my window manager (tried Cinnamon, Mate, Enlightment)... same thing. Any ideas? Same thing. Both 1.0.10 and 1.0.14 are officially supported, and so is the new 1.2. I can only tell you to try the latest version but I don't know what causes the problem. You should also delete your local configuration (~/.lazarus). If you still find a systematic way to reproduce the problem then please report as a bug. It may be a long time nasty bug as some people have had it during many versions.
