Linux Lazarus (Free Pascal) default directories and folders lazarus / 1-Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MalabarFlash · 2013-05-11 19:22 Ref:     Lazarus 0.9.30.4-4 r35971 FPC 2.6.0 x86_64-linux-gtk 2 I am new to Ubuntu 13.04 Linux and am struggling with the file system and terminology.  I wrote a test program to write to a file and another program to open that file.  I can not find it with the file manager that came with Ununtu.  1.  What is the default folder in Lazarus / Pascal that files are written to and read from? 2.  Can a I/O folder be assigned in the Lazarus IDE?  If so, how? 3.  If there is a better file manager for former Windows users than the one supplied with Ubuntu 13.04 what is it? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Blaazen · 2013-05-11 19:53 Default path should be /home/$USERNAME. Better (two panel) file manager is Double Commander. It is written in Lazarus. http://doublecmd.sourceforge.net/ Use menu "Downloads" (stable releases) or "Snapshots" (development version). Or maybe it is in Ubuntu repositories. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MalabarFlash · 2013-05-12 03:51 The default path is something other than /home/$username.   That is the default path for my text editor but not Pascal.  There should be some way to define it within Pascal, but I have been unable to find it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Leledumbo · 2013-05-12 05:23 The default path is where your executable is executed (not necessarily the executable location). If you want to know where, execute ExtractFilePath(ParamStr(0) to see where the system starts your executable. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MalabarFlash · 2013-05-12 17:38 Thank you, My default directory was /tmp/              In the environment - options area I experimented and found I can change the default directory by changing the "Directory for building test projects.
