1.0.4 Installation lazarus / 1-Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tintinux · 2012-12-10 13:31 Hi I'm afraid there is a problem on the new 1.0.4 debian package or installation (AMD-64/Ubuntu 12.04), I just downloaded from sourceforge. Previously I had Lazarus 1.0.2 installed, working fine.  It was in /usr/share/lazarus/1.0.2 First : after I installed 1.0.4, the /usr/share/lazarus/1.0.2 folder was removed without any confirmation.  This is surprising, not a problem for me, but I believed that it was now possible to have several versions at a time ? When I run from the menu "Programming", "Lazarus" (running startlazarus), I get : The splash screen with 1.0.4 in the bottom, and... "Welcome to Lazarus 1.0.2" I'm prompted to choose a folder, with defaut to /usr/share/lazarus/1.0.2  (which was removed...). If I select /usr/share/lazarus/1.0.4, I get : Warning: wrong version in ide/version.inc: 1.0.4 and if I "Start IDE" another similar warning. If I ignore, the IDE is loaded but with 1.0.2 in the Window title. However, it looks to be newer version, because some packages are outdated. Is there not something wrong ? Regards Tintinux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tk · 2014-06-29 08:57 Hi, i am entering the same problem after downgrading from 1.2.4 to 1.2.2 on my Kubuntu 14. Removed newer version with sudo apt-get remove lazarus. Then installed 1.2.2 with the debian package. Screenshot with the error and file:///etc/lazarus/environmentoptions.xml attached. How to remove this dialog? I get this each time I start Lazarus now. Thank you ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2014-06-29 09:01 Have you run apt-get purge lazarus as well to get rid of the config files? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tk · 2014-06-29 09:11 Very fast reply thank you. Now tried to purge instead of just remove but no change. Still I can see the dialog and all of my packages are installed. I know this dialog is part of startlazarus but it was not running during purge or remove. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Rails · 2014-06-29 13:05 Part of 1.2.4 is still installed.  Purge doesn't always remove everything. Try using locate lazarus to find all the associated files. Run updatedb first to make sure the locate database is fully up to date. Next, delete everything laz except for the installation packages, then reinstall from packages. It should go without saying, but back up anything you want to save before doing any of this. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tk · 2014-06-29 22:55 Solved, this was newbie question cause on Linux I am newbie forever Had 2 binaries, one 1.2.4 in '/home/tk/.lazarus/bin/' which was compiled with my packages and the default 1.2.2 '/usr/share/lazarus/1.2.2'. Startlazarus took still 1.2.4 somehow. Btw. is there some wiki about Linux layout (where is what installed, where lazarus compiles packages, saves various settings etc.)? Under Win everything is somewhere in C:\lazarus by default, simple, straightforward. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2014-06-30 05:22 Quote from: tk on June 30, 2014, 12:55:09 amUnder Win everything is somewhere in C:\lazarus by default, simple, straightforward. No it's not, your settings aren't there... This may help http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/Multiple_Lazarus there may be more relevant wiki pages, haven't searched... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tk · 2014-06-30 07:57 Quote from: BigChimp on June 30, 2014, 07:22:01 amNo it's not, your settings aren't there... Ou yes you are right the environment settings etc. is is in the user profile, AppData folder never noticed that before thank you... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LSemmens · 2014-07-14 15:12 In windoze you also have numerous registry entries to deal with, not to mention possible libraries stored in various system or windoze folders. Not as neat as one might think. I'm way more familiar with windoze than Linux, but am here to learn. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Mike.Cornflake · 2014-07-14 15:30 Quote from: LSemmens on July 14, 2014, 05:12:49 pmIn windoze you also have numerous registry entries to deal with, not to mention possible libraries stored in various system or windoze folders. Not as neat as one might think. In general yes, but not with Lazarus/fpc.  All lazarus files are in the lazarus folder, all fpc files are in the fpc folder, Lazarus user settings are either in appdata, or where-ever you tell lazarus to put them.  To the best of knowledge, neither Lazarus nor fpc write anything to the registry. Oh, if you install a stable version, some installation data will be written to the registry.  I use fpcup for both stable and trunk releases, so nothing in my registry... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LSemmens · 2014-07-15 12:06 That is great to hear! Windoze registry is the repository of way too much crap, I do tend to long for the bad ole days of DOS for that reason alone. Anyway, I'll opt out of this for now, Sorry to the OP for the thread hijack.
