What can I install on Linux Ubuntu 64 bits ? lazarus / 1-Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tintinux · 2012-08-20 13:49 Hi I'd like to install FPC and Lazarus packages on Ubuntu 12.04 on a 64 bits Intel machine. I don't see any x86 Deb 64. Can I find it somewhere else ? Thanks for help ! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Leledumbo · 2012-08-20 14:02 here? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tintinux · 2012-08-20 14:24 Thanks for your reply ! So the AMD64 version is also for Intel64... Another question : there is a big Lazarus Deb (112 Mo)  and small other Fpc Deb ?  Is the first one containing the others (like in Windows) or should we start by installing fpc ? All this is not very easy to guess...  could someone upload some notes in the source forge directory to explain a little more ? Regards Tintinux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Leledumbo · 2012-08-20 14:27 Hold on, are you talking about iA64 instead of x64_64? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tintinux · 2012-08-20 15:05 Sorry, I don't know exactly the meaning of the codes you write. I think my target machine has a 64 bits intel processor... This is the beginning of the output of Linux lspci command, if this can help : Code: [Select]00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family DRAM Controller (rev 09) 00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200/2nd Generation Core Processor Family PCI Express Root Port (rev 09) If this is not enough, where should I look for more information ? Thanks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2012-08-20 15:27 Well... google (or insert search engine), wikipedia etc is your friend. Our own Lazarus wiki may also have some entries on AMD64, don't know. Looks like you have an x64 (aka amd64) processor like many of us. IA64 aka Itanium is not that widely used. So the link Leledumbo initially posted was for your architecture. You start with the fpc one, then the lazarus one. Why don't you have a look at the instructions on the wiki? If you go to the main page, you see the installation section. There you see the link to the installing lazarus page. That one may give you all the detail you want, and more. My suggestion if you can't find something: first look in the Lazarus wiki (especially for lazarus stuff), and the FPC manuals. The wiki search function is quite handy for this. Bonne chance, and if you have more questions, please don't hesitate to post. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tintinux · 2012-08-20 16:11 Ok, thanks, I'm going to try. I searched previously in the Wiki, but I didn't found any page to help me. I have retried just now, with same result. Can you give me the exact page which should have helped me, according to you ? Or which keywords you use to solve such question ? I think that it is not so obvious... Regards ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2012-08-20 16:14 Welll ok.... if this isn't clear enough: Quote from: BigChimp on August 20, 2012, 05:27:02 pmIf you go to the main page, you see the installation section. There you see the link to the installing lazarus page. I'll really spell it out http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/Installing_Lazarus ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tintinux · 2012-08-20 16:27 May be we are not talking of the same wiki, or i'm blind. There is no installation section on the main page. In the Download section, there is a link http://wiki.freepascal.org/Installing_Lazarus Following this link, I find a section http://wiki.freepascal.org/Insta lling_Lazarus#Installing_Lazarus_under_Linux By the way, the titles is in strikethrough  text, what does it mean ? However I read under this title only 3 lines : Ubuntu / Debian The easiest way to get a current working installation of Lazarus is to download the .deb files for FreePascal and Lazarus from the SourceForge repository. Here is how: Getting Lazarus from our Ubuntu repository. Note that installing from the default Ubuntu sources will not install the Free Pascal Source Libraries - use the method above. So where do you find information on the right package to download and install ? Regards ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TurboRascal · 2012-08-20 17:15 I personally prefer to install from the apt repository instead of messing with debs. If you insist on using debs, get the tar containing all required debs, untar them somewhere and install by using "dpkg -i *.deb" in the directory. However, I've given up on the debian packages because of frequent problems, so now I get the source for the stable version and install it locally using "make install". For trunk I use fpcup, which is the easiest solution, and I guess I'll also use it for the fixes branch soon. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Leledumbo · 2012-08-20 17:31 AFAIR last time I use the prepackaged (that .deb.tar thing) installation it was all self contained, minus the dependencies (X11, gtk2/qt). So you could simply extract the .tar (and get a bunch of .deb), then execute: sudo dpkg -i *.deb I'm not quite sure whether the .deb lists dependencies against X11 or gtk2/qt, just try it out. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ludob · 2012-08-20 17:31 Don't use the lazarus 1.0 RC1 debs on linux 64. They don't rebuild correctly, so you can't install any new package. See http://bugs.freepascal.org/view.php?id=22579. The issue is marked as solved as of today, so any debs older than today won't work. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2012-08-20 17:38 Quote from: tintinux on August 20, 2012, 06:27:45 pmMay be we are not talking of the same wiki, or i'm blind.
