FP 2.6 installed automatically on Ubuntu 10.04 - Lazarus 0.9.30.4 won't install lazarus / 1-Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- HappyLarry · 2012-03-17 23:33 On my latest automatic Ubuntu software update (Lucid Lynx 10.04) I was pleasantly surprised to find that Free Pascal 2.6.0-1 was automatically downloaded and installed  Unfortunately when I started Lazarus  it would not work. I had assumed that the matching Lazarus version would be installed automatically too, but that was not the case - I still had 0.9.30.0. Therefore I completely removed it.  I then tried to install 'Lazarus 0.9.30.4' which was available on Synaptic and got the error Quotelazarus-0.9.30.4:  Depends: lazarus-ide-0.9.30.4 but it is not going to be installedI tried to install lazarus-ide-0.9.30.4 but got the error Quotelazarus-ide-0.9.30.4:  Depends: libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0 (>=2.22.0) but it is not installable   Depends: libgtk2.0-0 (>=2.24.0) but 2.20.1-0ubuntu2.1 is to be installed  Depends: lazarus-ide-gtk-0.9.30.4 or    lazarus-ide-qt-0.9.30.4 I tried to install 'Lazarus' from Synaptic and got the same error as with Lazarus 0.9.30.4. I tried to install using apt-get install Lazarus and got the error below: QuoteSome packages could not be installed. Anyone know what I have done wrong? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- HappyLarry · 2012-03-18 13:15 There was a problem installing Lazarus 0.9.30.2 on Ubuntu 10.04 an 10.10 which was explained here: http://www.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php/topic,15432.0.html by Troodon in reply #8 It means that Lazarus 0.9.30.4 probably also won't run on those versions. Therefore it would be better to change the Lazarus / fp version in the Ubuntu repository for 10.04 and 10.10  to one which will run on those versions (i.e. Lazarus 0.9.30 ans fp 2.4.2) rather than the current one (Lazarus 0.9.30.4 + fp 2.6) which won't. Otherwise every time there is an Ubuntu software update we will have to fish out fp 2.6 to stop it being installed. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- HappyLarry · 2012-03-19 23:19 Correction: neither fpc or LAzarus are now working. When I type 'fpc' at a terminal I get QuoteThe program 'fpc' is currently not installed.  You can install it by typing: sudo apt-get install fp-compiler According to Synaptic 'fpc' is definitely installed (version 2.6.0-1). All I have done is accept the software update. Has anyone got either Free Pascal 2.6.0-1 or Lazarus 0.9.30.4 from the repository working on Ubuntu 10.04? Unpacked both. Changed some links of the .so.xx at the usr/lib since lazarus is looking specifically for .so files. This morning I found that the metapackage lazarus was not installed, so it appears that my system had 9.30.0 yet on it. I tried selecting the lazarus metapackage, and got an error. Drilling down the package dependency chain, finally selecting lazarus- ide-0.9.30.4 results in the following errors: Quotelazarus-ide-0.9.30.4:  Depends: libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0 (>=2.22.0) but it is not installable   Depends: libgtk2.0-0 (>=2.24.0) but 2.20.1-0ubuntu2.1 is to be installed  Depends: lazarus-ide-gtk-0.9.30.4 or    lazarus-ide-qt-0.9.30.4 Indeed, 10.04 has 2.20.1-0ubuntu2.1 So evidently 9.30.4 was built depending on a higher version of Ubuntu than 10.04 LTS. Then I unpacked just the Lazarus archive, which had individual .deb packages inside. I am starting to think that these packages were built on a higher version of Ubuntu, whereas the FPC packages might have been built with 10.04. hhhmmmm........
