Any chance of updating Ubuntu Software Centre with latest Lazarus? lazarus / 1-Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Michael Collier · 2011-09-21 05:21 Is it possible for someone to update the version of Lazarus that the Ubuntu software centre downloads within the Ubuntu software update system thingy on the ubuntu main menu? I don't know the procedure for notifying them (I think they use the name Canonical Partners). I've used it to download Lazarus, Webservers, Databases etc and it is a very painless process for finding, reading reviews and installing applications. I'm currently stuck on a beta version of lazarus and would prefer to use the update centre to get it up to speed. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JD · 2011-09-21 08:41 From experience, Canonical does not update its servers with the latest releases of software as soon as they are available. They are very conservative and frankly, I don't blame them. They don't want any untested software to break their Linux distribution. The situation is the same for new releases to Gnome, LibreOffice etc so Lazarus is not alone there. I believe Canonical still has Lazarus 0.9.28  on its servers. I had to download the most recent Lazarus svn releases for installation on my Ubuntu 11.04 and I've personally not had problems with it. There are detailed instructions for how to do this on this forum. Just search for it. That may be your only recourse. Cheers, JD ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Rails · 2011-09-21 12:25 I don't know why Ubuntu is stuck on 0.9.28. The last official release, 0.9.30, is in the Debian repository, and Debian is far more conservative than Ubuntu. I suggest you find out which individual on the Ubuntu team is responsible for that particular package and contact him directly. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JD · 2011-09-21 12:36 Quote from: Rails on September 21, 2011, 02:25:01 pmI suggest you find out which individual on the Ubuntu team is responsible for that particular package and contact him directly. Or better still, install the Lazarus svn version by following the instructions on this forum. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dkjMusic · 2011-09-21 15:54 Quote from: JD on September 21, 2011, 10:41:19 am...There are detailed instructions for how to do this on this forum. You could always use CodeTyphon. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- HappyLarry · 2011-09-21 16:16 The next release of Ubuntu is Oneiric Ocelot which is due mid-October. That will come with Lazarus 0.9.30, according to the Ubuntu website. Do Ubuntu update the repository for a particular version once it is released? I thought it was frozen.
