lazarus fails on save file Save SaveAs

lazarus loads and appears to function ok
but when i try to save i get a blank save dialog
plus what a looks to be a blank error messageBox
when i click x on message box everything closes.
this is my first try at lazarus. have used delphi before.

using lazarus 0.9.28.2-0beta on kubuntu 4.3.2

Is it gtk2 laz ? If yes, then problem is gtk2 theme (think qtcurve).
Try to change gtk2 theme.

svn revision x86_64-linux-gtk2 beta
gtk appearance widget style QtCurve  theme???

also have another problem programs compile ok
but display a new empty form

well, I don't see lazarus version from your post: "x86_64-linux-gtk2
beta" means that it's lazarus compiled for 64bit gtk2. What's laz
version ?

clean + build   lcl interface gtk 2 beta

get the following....
"LCL" completed
"Package Registration" completed
"IDE Interface" completed
"SynEdit" completed
"CodeTools" completed
/usr/lib/lazarus/0.9.28.2/examples/helloform.pp(68,1) Error: Can't

ah... of course you don't have write permissions to
/usr/lib/lazarus/examples ...
execute:
sudo chown -R myusername:myusernamegroup /usr/lib/lazarus
so then you'll be able to recompile laz with examples.
P.S: chown -R myusername:myusernamegroup /usr/lib/lazarus  is security
problem, so not real solution, but if you're only user on your
machine, you can do that.

yes thanks for that   lazarus now compiles ok
but i still have orignal problems!!!

ie examples compile ok but present me with a blank new form??
and still problems with save, save as  lazarus closes.

1. Try another example.
2.Save & SaveAs problem (lazarus crashes) comes from gtk2 theme - so
try lazarus under gnome if you don't know how to change default gtk2
theme under kde.
