Using Projecttemplates

I am unable to get this package operational.
I installed package ProjTemplates 1.0,
   recompiled Lazarus and read the readme file.
In the menu I have Tools | Project template options
   the directory points to a directory containing an other directory
with
   a complete project I can open, compile and run.
I do have a File | New | Template projects entry, but nothing in it.
The readme file mentions a File | New project from template entry,
which I do not have.
How can I make this working.
I use the latest Lazarus svn.
