Lazarus on Debian Testing won't work lazarus / 1-Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- c-bob · 2009-09-03 13:05 Hi Lazarians! I set up a Debian-System in this Way-> Debian Etch Netinstall (old stable) - > Upgrade to Debian Lenny (current stable) -> Upgrade to Squeeze (testing). Then I installed fp and at least lazarus. My WM is Fluxbox. If I start lazarus on fluxbox it takes a while and then my system chrashes: First the WM vanished then on console the error appears "floatingpoint failure" (I don't know, if it is the right english error message, in german it is "Gleitkomma Fehler") After that I have to reboot because nothing works correcktly, not even the login. So what could that be? Oh, my system is a Vortex86DX based board (industrial PC/104) which is i386 compatible - is that the problem? Have I to recompile the whole thing for getting it working? Greetinx -C- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- hy · 2009-09-03 18:07 I have a debian sid - and I like fluxbox. But there are some strange behaviours of fluxbox that are Off Topic here. I'd rather estimate your problem is fluxbox. So as a first step I'd use kde instead of fluxbox just to see if the error persists. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- c-bob · 2009-09-04 09:12 Hi hy! Yes, if I could use KDE, then I would do it. But my system is a non- Intel but x86 compatible Vortex86DX-board with 800MHz and no pentium extensions - so it is really slow and not usable with KDE. For the further jobs it has to do, it would be enough. But I have to develop the programms (for measuring purposes) and so it would be nice, if it could be possible to test directly on this system. At the moment I try the CodeTyphoon-package. Greetings -C- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- c-bob · 2009-09-06 15:22 After testing on a "native" i486 compatible system I can say, lazarus works on fluxbux without problems. Now my big problem is, how can I get it work on the Vortex board?! While testing with the CodeTyphon package the same failure came up: "Floatingpoint exception"  - is it about the missing PentiumPro or above routines in the processor? The other question is: can I develop programms with Lazarus on an other machine and compile it with fpc on my Vortex board? And what have I to do in my configs? Greetingx -C- [EDIT] Just one idea: maybe the floatingpoint problem is due to an optimization of lazarus at compile-time for a i686? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Marc · 2009-09-28 06:29 The floatingpoint exception can be the div by zero lazarus uses to catch serious widgetset errors (when using gdb to debug) Look at your console if some message is written.
