Ubuntu latest .deb and fonts lazarus / 1-Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jaydan · 2009-05-01 03:30 It appears the Ubuntu repository has an older version of freepascal and lazarus.  I tried installing the latest release on the lazarus site, but my fonts look really bad in Gnome. Anway to get this in ubuntu? http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/images/c/c3/Lazarus_IDE_GTK2.png Also, I noticed that the inet tools needed to create a simple web browser seemed to be missing.  Are these components available? Note, I have all sorts of fonts installed and ubuntu-restricted- extras.  Other program fonts look wonderful, lazarus looks almost unreadable and nothing like the screenshot above. thanks, jay ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Leledumbo · 2009-05-01 07:07 QuoteIt appears the Ubuntu repository has an older version of freepascal and lazarus.Yes, I don't know what the exact reason is. Perhaps due to difficulty to comply Debian policy? QuoteAnway to get this in ubuntu?Take a look at this wiki. Assuming you have installed the standard Lazarus/FPC release (with sources): - launch Lazarus as root from a terminal window (startlazarus) - go to Tools|Configure "Build Lazarus" - check Build LCL and select the gtk 2 (beta) LCL interface - click Build If everything went fine (check message window) then: - go to Tools|Configure "Build Lazarus" - check Build IDE with packages and select the gtk2 (beta) IDE interface - click Build If you have all the required devel packages installed, upon completion of the build process Lazarus should restart. Quit Lazarus and delete (as root) all Lazarus-related files in /tmp. Now you can run it as a standard user, from the menu. When building gtk2 apps in Lazarus you will need to choose the gtk2 widgetset in Project|Compiler Options. If some dev packages are missing then you will need to carefully examine the error messages to figure out what to install (use Synaptic) then try the previous step again. Repeat until Lazarus restarts (see above). You might also want to change some of the default editor settings in Environment|Options|Editor|Display.
