How to install latest Lazarus in Ubuntu lazarus / 1-Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tech-pro · 2008-12-10 16:37 I have installed andLinux on a new Windows PC. It is apparently a KDE based version of Ubuntu (Gutsy, I think) that uses coLinux, which allows you to run Linux applications from within Windows in a similar way to how you can run Windows programs under Linux using wine - with each application in its own window on the Windows desktop. I would like to run the Linux version of Lazarus under this, but the version in the Synaptic package manager is old, 0.9.22, and the FPC is 2.0.4. How do I install the latest version through Synaptic? I have downloaded two large .tar files from this site, and extracted them to a folder so I now have about 15 .deb files of Lazarus and FPC in one folder. But I can't see how to open them in the package manager. It seems to have no File / Open / *.deb option. I tried File / Add Downloaded Packages and pointed it at the folder, but although it appeared to read the 15 packages only the old ones appear when I search for "lazarus" or "free pascal". ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mariuz · 2008-12-15 16:34 here is the tutorial http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/Getting_Lazarus#Getting_Lazarus_fro m_our_Ubuntu_repository ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tech-pro · 2008-12-15 17:52 Quote from: "mariuz"here is the tutorial http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/Getting_Lazarus#Getting_Lazarus_fro m_our_Ubuntu_repository That's great. Perhaps there could be a link to this article on the Downloads page of the site, because I think that's where most people will look, and then they will try installing the .deb files that are there. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Marion · 2008-12-22 20:07 Quote from: mariuz on December 15, 2008, 05:34:15 pmhere is the tutorial http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/Getting_Lazarus#Getting_Lazarus_fro m_our_Ubuntu_repository I have followed these instructions, and in the past they worked great. However, after upgrading to Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex, I have not been able to compile a Lazarus project. I have uninstalled and installed Lazarus from both the debs and package manager, but I still get errors when compiling a simple form only project and when I try to recompile Lazarus for GTK2. I really like Lazarus, but I still can't depend on it for my business. I miss Delphi ever since I left Windows, but I dislike Window/Microsoft much more than I miss Delphi. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Vincent Snijders · 2008-12-23 08:16 Ubuntu 8.10 has a new version of gtk2. To work with this version, you need fpc 2.2.3 or later. There are no releases of this version yet. There are rpm snapshots though, but no debian snapshots. Maybe Debian SID has a patched version of fpc 2.2.2, that works with these newer gtk2 versions. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Sternas Stefanos · 2008-12-26 17:10 Try CodeTyphon from http://www.pilotlogic.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lazamon · 2009-01-26 13:58 Easyest way --> Synaptic --> Search --> Lazarus Configure enviroment optiones and thats all. I did that way and i have got everything working fine. Even more, if you want, add lazarus repository to synaptic and you'll be always up to date. You can getit googleing.
