converting windows program to linux lazarus / 1-Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- EmielPeeters · 2008-11-18 09:29 Hi, In the past I allways used Delphi for windows application, I recently discoverd Lazarus and free pascal and this works amazing. I have written my application for windows, on a windows pc. The same program needs to run on a linux machine.  It is a very simple and short program of opening and saving some files. How do I do this? Do I need to get a linux version from Lazarus and/or Free pascal and install it on a linux OS? Is it possible to convert the windows source files from my program directly into a linux version. Can sombody give me an idea how to get started with this? Thanks, Emiel ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Vincent Snijders · 2008-11-18 09:46 The ideal picture is this: * Install Lazarus on a linux computer, preferably the same Lazarus/Free Pascal version as you have on your Windows computer. * Copy your sources to the linux computer * Open the project file (.lpi) on you linux computer * Compile and run the application. Lazarus: write once, compile everywhere ;-) Edited after hint from Theo, thanks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- theo · 2008-11-18 10:33 @Vincent: Wasn't that "write once. COMPILE anywhere" ? ;-) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Leledumbo · 2008-11-18 10:42 You can directly generate linux binaries under Windows. You just need i386-linux-ld (since FPC doesn't have internal linker for ELF yet) and a BUNCH of libraries from the target OS. Here's the list of files you need. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Sternas Stefanos · 2008-11-18 20:28 My way:   1) Install the free version of Vmware Server from ( http://www.vmware.com/products/server/ )   2) Install VM Linux or Windows, I use ubuntu 32/64bit and all windows ver   3) Download CodeTyphon from ( http://www.pilotlogic.com )   4) Unzip/Install CodeTyphon to host PC and vm guests   5) Build FPC/Lazarus to host PC and vm guests (read install.htm)   6) have fun... and forget Delphi
