WorkBench - Linux Distro With Lazarus Pre-installed lazarus / 1-Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- cyber_python · 2008-07-23 15:22 I have just created a new Xubuntu-based distro (in fact I remastered an Xubuntu installation, added some artwork and preinstalled applications) called WorkBench. It comes with Lazarus 0.9.24b pre-installed, so anyone that may be experiencing trouble installing lazarus can try using this distro instead. You can find more about it and download the iso from here : http://my- codebits.site88.net/workbench/index.html ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ñuño_Martínez · 2008-07-24 09:25 Cool. Did you recompile it using GTK2? Unfortunately I haven't DVD reader so I can't test or use it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jma_sp · 2014-09-08 10:18 You can create a basic installation in bootable pendrive with debian weezy 7.x. Then with x windows and a windows manager as jwm and a desktop manager as ROX can install the rest of neccesary things. By example with apt you can install gtk and iceweasel, download lazarus/freepascal .deb and install it with dpkg. It works fine, light and fast. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2014-09-08 10:21 Well yes. You could probably also do the same with fedora and other distributions. Also: just like you can create custom Debian/Ubuntu distributions containing your own packages, I'm sure there are ways to do the same in RedHat based distros. Sometimes, having everything set up in advance can be quite handy (e.g. classroom instruction, helping people with limited Linux knowledge etc). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Blaazen · 2014-09-08 11:22 Ehmmm, 6 years old thread. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2014-09-08 11:28 Yep. But the reasons/pros and cons of pre-installed Lazarus on Linux haven't really changed IMO. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jma_sp · 2014-09-09 08:21 Yes, it´s 6 years old but the advantages of carry with a pendrive with all, system + compiler +.... is an interesting thing that someones was trying along years. Fedora probably works ok also but i thing that a lot of windows managers are so heavy for the hardware. Ther is some distros (including lives distros) that probably works ok with it remasterized but in any case there is to create it. There is a long long time that by example knoppix included Lazarus but i suppose that people not pay special interest in feedback and never else included it. I have created a basic post about creating a pendrive where can be installed Lazarus/FreePascal. It is debian based and its not complicated. http://hispabyte.net/foro/cursos-y-manuales-de-cosecha-propia/crear- un-pendrivememoria-con-debian-jwm-rox-filer/ I have Lazarus / FreePascal working in it  64 bits. Sorry for my poor english. Best Regards.
