Ubuntu 8.04 lazarus / 1-Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- llewellyna · 2008-07-03 08:42 Hi - wondering if anyone has a clue how to make Lazarus add the extra packages I want to use  like DBFLaz and lazreport -- they appear to be there -- but the components do not show up -- To install then i select "Save and rebuild the ide" but I just get this error "Unable to write to file "/usr/lib/lazarus/components/printers/Makefile.fpc"  Lazarus was working fine (with the extra components) in PC Linux -- but just cannot get any joy in Ubuntu -- Unfortunately most other things work slightly or a lot better in Ubuntu 8.04 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WibblyTim · 2008-07-03 17:10 You are attempting to add the packages as an ordinary user instead of a super user. Open a terminal and then type sudo ./startlazarus Enter your password and Lazarus will then start. Open and install the additional package you want. Repeat until done. Exit Lazarus. Close the terminal. Start Lazarus as a 'normal' user. Enjoy. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- llewellyna · 2008-07-03 21:49 Thanks very much for your reply. I actually thought that and tried  $sudo lazarus-ide Made no difference -- exactly the same error is " sudo ./startlazarus" inferring something else the exact statement does nothing. Sorry I am not exactly an  su- guru. but thanks again for your help. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- arwen · 2008-07-26 08:27 I have done so for not having these problems: 1 - installed fpc from the official UBUNTU repo 2 - downloaded the sources lazarus from the official website and      unpacked in my home.      Then I recompiled lazarus      with the command "make clean all" to get lazarus      or "make bigide" to get lazarus with already installed all officials      components
