Problems installing Lazarus in Kubuntu Hardy AMD64 lazarus / 1-Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jtiedeman · 2008-06-28 22:14 I have tried both pkg mgrs and both say there in a break. I have tried the missing dependencies, the first level of which is fp-units-gtk, libgdk-pixbuf-dev, and libgtk1.2-dev, but attempts to install thete individually result in another layer ofunmet dependencies. I was going to try Kylix again, but can't find the install codes after ann these years, and the free version I tried last year wouldn't install either. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tech-pro · 2008-06-29 10:03 Installing Lazarus under Linux really is a big headache. I can't offer specific help with Kubuntu. You have really got to install the libraries that are required, if at all possible. The problem I had is that there was a dependency on a file that was not available for my particular system. The way I overcame it was to open the .deb package in my file manager so that I could see the files inside. It is just like an archive - you'll see "/usr/...". I dragged and dropped the contents of the package that would not install because of an unmet dependency into the place it was supposed to go. I just dragged "/usr" to the root folder, and OK'd a message about "folder /user already exists, files of the same name will be overwritten". I had to install the Lazarus .deb the same way, since the package manager wouldn't do it since it still thought the dependent package I installed manually was not present. But it worked. Another way is to install FPC (which hopefully you can do using the package manager) and then install Lazarus from SVN. There are instructions for doing that from the wiki. That will enable you to get the latest version. I haven't tried that since I'm not familiar with SVN, and I prefer to use the released, stable version. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jtiedeman · 2008-08-02 16:27 Tried again after 100+ updates had been issued for hardy. This time installed easily but the database components aren't there. I saw something in another post which I am trying to find again and print so that I can follow it step by step.  This, however, is true on only one of tow computers with the same OS and same updates. The other one gives the same message as before. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jtiedeman · 2009-03-17 20:19 After many other problems with hardy, D moved to intrepid. Whay synaptic didn't get for me, I dowloaded from this site and got Laz running fairly well. Now if they would just add TdbLookupCombo, which I think wal present in an earlier version.
