New to Linux Programming lazarus / 1-Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LazaruX · 2008-05-28 13:29 Hi, in Windows if I create my .exe, it will work on every other win systems, also on win 95 sometimes. But i nlinux? If I compile my app, and get the binary/executble file. WIll it work on every other distro? Will it need any dependencies? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Leledumbo · 2008-05-29 05:58 The dependency will be the widgetset you use (either gtk1, gtk2, qt, etc.) and its dependencies. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Almindor · 2008-05-31 19:54 Plus any other 3rd party package dependencies. E.g: if you used SQLDB to connect to postgre database, you'll need the postgre client library etc. But by default you only need the widgetset libs. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tech-pro · 2008-06-10 22:23 So Lazarus apps are superior to GNU C/C++ apps, which usually don't work unless compiled with the exact same libs as the target system? If so, that's great. It has always been a major frustration having to compile from source anything that isn't available as a binary rpm or deb for your particular distro. I have long wondered how portable is a Linux binary compiled for gtk2 with Lazarus.
